⁣⁣ I thought this quick video would give me a fun chance to share the oddly satisfying process of changing the color of the lead lines on a stained glass piece . ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ✨ Bonus: letting other glass artists in on my secret to a super bright patina (for non-stained glass artists patina is the chemical that helps change the appearance of lead from silver to copper or black)! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Asking yourself how I’m able to achieve such a bright patina? After I finish soldering I wash off my project in the sink thoroughly with soap and warm water. Once dried I think take a super fine grade steel wool pad (found at Home Depot and also please wear a mask while doing this) and scrub the absolute heck out of it to rough up the surface of the lead. After I finish, I wash my project again with soap + warm water. I dry for a second time and then it’s ready for the patina. Once finished I clean the patina off with 90% isopropyl alcohol. Finally the best way I’ve found to preserve the color is to quickly wax and buff. Then TA-DAH you’ve got that bright copper or black shine ! Good luck!!!!⁣⁣ .⁣⁣ .⁣⁣ .⁣⁣ .⁣⁣ .⁣⁣
