Sneak peek of Maria Nepomuceno's first exhibition in Norway, Afetosyntesis, opening tomorrow, Friday 17 March, at the Stavanger Art Museum. Using coloured rope and beads, Nepomuceno creates organic sculptures that spread outwards and fill the room. Her large, often spiral-shaped works are inspired by old Brazilian craft traditions and traditional bartering culture. For each exhibition, she creates sculptures adapted to the place where they are shown. Image: regram via @stavangerkunstmuseum (detail of work being installed) ⠀⠀

Oscar Wergeland’s painting «Eidsvold 1814» has become the iconic image associated with the Norwegian constitution. When Trond Hugo Haugen decided to recreate the composition in connection with the 200th anniversary of the constitution’s signing at Eidsvoll, he invited a cross-section of the Norwegian population to pose in the same room. The result was displayed on the façade of Oslo Central Station (Oslo S) in the spring of 2014.
Haugen’s photographic work «Et riksportrett» [English: A Portrait of a Nation] depicts the same number of people. They are old and young, men and women, heterosexual and homosexual, ethnic Norwegians and people from ethnic minorities. All travelled to Eidsvoll from different parts of Norway to spend a whole day participating in Haugen’s project. A pregnant woman sits looking at the camera, just as her grandfather sat when he modelled for Oscar Wergeland in 1884. Haugen’s aim was to show a cross-section of “the people”, thereby creating a representative portrait of Norway’s population in 2014.
Now the artwork is purchased by Stavanger Art Museum - and we congratulate both them and Trond Hugo Haugen!
You find more information about the project - and a film or two - on KOROs project page about «Et riksportrett». #etriksportrett #etriksportrettettereidsvold1814 #trondhugohaugen #stavangerkunstmuseum #eidsvoll #oscarwergeland #grunnlovsjubileet #grunnlovsjubileum #grunnlovsfeiring #riksportrett #celebration #1884 #publicart #offentligkunst
