Выяснилось, что рога показали более высокий результат, чем все ранее зарегистрированные SCI трофеи лося. До этого рекорд удерживали рога лося, которого застрелили на Аляске. Издание делает вывод, что Камчатка официально стала местом, где водятся самые крупные лоси на Земле. . Камчатский лось является подвидом восточносибирского лося (Alces alces pfizenmayeri). Длина тела животных достигает до 290 сантиметров, высота в холе – до 3 метров. Весят взрослые лоси примерно до 800 килограммов. . Лоси заселялись на Камчатку человеком. По информации Кроноцкого заповедника, работы по заселению лося на полуостров начались в 1976 году. Отлов производился в бассейне реки Пенжина и продолжался с 1977 по 1982 годы. Одна из первых партий лосей была выпущена в бассейне реки Левая Щапина в Мильковском районе края. . По данным краевого агентства лесного хозяйства и охраны животного мира, в прошлом году на полуострове обитало около 10,5 тысячи лосей. Впрочем, эта оценка является не единственной. Некоторые депутаты Законодательного собрания считали, что животных гораздо меньше, и в ряде районов их вообще может не остаться. .
