What's on your self-care to-do list today?
Taking care of ourselves should never be followed by feelings of guilt. Why should we feel guilty for keeping ourselves healthy? Remember, if you're healthy and happy, you're empowering yourself to help others be the same. #selfcarematters

Why do we feel guilty for doing nothing for any extended period of time?
I used to be able to take naps during the day, but now I feel like lying down when the sun is still up is a waste of time. And so I force myself to stay up even though I probably know I won't get any more work done.
But we shouldn't feel bad for needing down time. So if you're like me, let's make a promise to take that nap the next time we feel like we need one. Let's learn to feel good about resting. #relaxandrecharge
How do you recharge throughout the day?

When you are resting because you are worn out, you need to remember that you are not wasting time. You are doing exactly what you need to do. You are recovering.⠀

One of the biggest complaints I hear from patients is overwhelm. It seems to be the thing that everyone suffers from these days. I suffer from it, too. Today we have more responsibilities, infinite choices, and way too many distractions. When you're overwhelmed, space and time collapse. You're left without any sense of inner-spaciousness. Feeling overwhelmed is not only dis-empowering, it's an exhausting way to live.
So what can you do about it?
Remember that feeling overwhelmed a state of being. It has more to do with how you manage your time and energy, than the actual content in your life. Jackson Brown reminds us that Michelangelo, Mother Theresa and Albert Einstein also had 24 hours in a day!
Being overwhelmed is not a fact -- it's a state of consciousness that limits your freedom and happiness. It requires a shift in perspective. Oftentimes, when you're feeling overwhelmed, you're over-thinking everything that needs to get done. You've lost yourself and you're no longer present. Instead of seeing the things outside of you having power over you, be willing to stop and regather yourself. Bring yourself back to the present moment. Remember that you have a choice about the way you want to feel.

For the past 4 years I had been pushing myself to the limits without properly switching off so all of a sudden 2 or 3 months ago I lost all my motivation & completely burnt out. I felt some pressure with some deadlines to maintain a high level of productivity. Inside of me, I felt strong feelings to push through my own resistance to keep up with these things that were expected of me, and I felt incredibly frustrated, unclear, and drained. I got caught up in a belief that I must always be going, doing, being, and creating, and that I must always be on my A-game.
As you might be able to guess, living at that high level of productivity isn’t quite sustainable and so, mentally, physically, and emotionally I was completely tapped. I was feeling out of my creative flow, mentally, blocked, and exhausted. Upon recognizing that I had reached my limits, I came back home to myself and immediately became aware that I needed a break. My brain was begging for a pause. My body. My soul too. I needed time to just breathe and take some healthy, conscious space.
Have you noticed that It can feel really uncomfortable for us to take breaks?
What will happen in that space of nothingness?
Will I let people down?
Will I fall behind?
Will someone else surpass me?
Will I be forgotten?
Will I lose my creative flow?
Will I not start back up again?
These are some of the questions I thought to myself when resisting taking a break. And the answer to all of them is a simple and meaningful no.
Taking breaks, creating spaces, taking pauses in life are a crucial, critical part of our self-care and self-preservation practices. Taking a moment of pause before starting again is regeneration and renewal. Giving yourself the gift of time and space cultivates creativity. Personal time solidifies the strong foundation we have from within to shine as bright as we can.
Taking breaks doesn’t always come easy to us, so I want to gently and confidently remind you that it’s okay. Breaks are allowed, and often it is necessary to pause, take a break, and start again.
So if deep down you’re feeling called to pause, I hope you honor it, and remember…
Put you and your self care first
Hey y’all! I recently decided to take a break from my blog/ social media over the next couple of weeks. This was an incredibly tough decision for me because in the almost three years of running travelJewels, I’ve only taken one “break” and it’s in quotes because I was still doing some work on it during that time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I think in the age of the “side hustle” there’s a lot of pressure to run yourself into the ground in the name of your passions. But why is this necessary?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While my blog does bring me a lot of joy, lately I’ve been feeling like a machine. I’m choosing to take this break to recalibrate and give my energy to other areas of my life that need my attention right now. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Initially the thought of taking a break from travelJewels freaked me out because I was thinking of how it would negatively impact my blog. But the truth is my blog will not collapse from me taking a few weeks off. I know my most loyal supporters will still be around when I return and any business opportunity that is meant for me will be there as well. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Love you all. Take care of yourselves.
Hands up who is tired! ♀️ When you run your own business, taking a proper break is often nigh on impossible, but it’s so bloody important. Slightly hypocritically, I’m working bank holiday Monday to get ahead on the week, but that’s entirely my choice and the rest of the time, I’ll be embracing REST. Also, you may have noticed a break from #thehandwrittenyear - it wasn’t intentional, but I’ll be doing my best to get back into the swing of it again
I was a little busy lately. Beside my full-time job I was working on a logo and corporate design for a friend. That‘s why I had no time working on new letterings and I felt more like taking a short break. Because of that I had a short vacation and visited lovely Hamburg and Berlin and relaxed and enjoyed my time off. Sometimes I need this to feel refreshed and recharged again.

This is my „sorry for 3 week’s off“ lettering piece for all who wondered why I stopped posting.

I am a little late to join this week’s #goodtypetuesday from @goodtype on time, but the challenge „What it is you do that gets you back into the creative flow?“ fits so well to my „take a break and relax“ situation, that I just make a #goodtypesunday out of it ... and share my lettering piece with you.
