This last 7 days has been a time of the lowest lows and the highest highs.
One thing remains for certain; your support network, and surrounding yourselves with people who hold you up, and only radiate love.
Thank you to my people who always show unwavering support, and are there to celebrate special moments at the same time.
I’ll finish with this quote by J K Rowling. “Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light”. Happy Humpday peeps!
We’re about to do our annual youth retreat on The Central Coast, and The Crowne Plaza is the perfect place for us to rest our head before the busy week begins.
We’ve stayed here many times and it just keeps pulling us back.
Isla couldn’t agree more after getting her little kids holiday pack! Thanks guys for the amazing hospitality ☕️ @crowneplazaterrigalpacific
Sunrise on the east coast of Australia’s #centralcoastnsw is something I wish I’d spent more time appreciating growing up as a child. I wonder if it would have sparked my love for photography sooner in my life.

#backstory - my first post from my recent trip to my hometown in Australia and this one triggers so many emotions. Firstly and most dearest, I had an uncle pass away on this beach. This image and the light I captured is just perfect for honoring that memory. Secondly I have a nephew that is learning photography and he joined me on this shot. I wish I was more prepared to teach him the ropes, but hopefully he was inspired by the time we had. Lastly, this morning was gloomy and raining and being winter it was windy and freezing. I waited it out just hoping the small cloud break on the horizon would bring some glow and it all worked out perfect. It’s a reminder to me to always put in the time, be patient, and bring positive hope with me every time I shoot.

Let’s talk dummies and pacifiers!
Now I know first hand what parents go through, being a Mummy myself. So I can totally understand why parents turn to the dummy.
But I’d like to take the opportunity to explain the negative effects of pacifiers, because one thing that became clear for me on my journey through motherhood, is that other parents genuinely didn’t know and realise that dummies CAN actually be bad. And I realised that I shouldn’t assume that all parents knew what I know or that it was ‘common knowledge’ that pacifiers were bad.
I do feel that a pacifier has its place... to a degree! (insert cringe because even then it should be a last resort)
Babies have a natural reflux to suck, and with babies with a strong suck reflex a dummy can help alleviate the situation, or a mother who is at her wits end (yep, been there done that)
For many reasons, a baby may be particularly unsettled (yerrrrp, been there done that too) and a dummy can be used as a true ‘pacifier’ to help soothe bub.
But with all that said, there is no such thing as a good dummy, or orthodontic pacifier for that matter. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but there just isn’t. No matter what the packaging tells you!
There are however pacifiers that are better then others, and as a general rule I always advise the smaller the better.
Why dummies are bad in short:
-
∘ Prevents the tongue from resting in the palate: tongue posture is an important part of facial development serving as a placeholder for teeth and a natural expander to form nice wide arches.
-
∘ Causes an ‘open bite’ which can lead to serious orthodontic issues down the track: obviously we know bones move around and can easily be influenced, hence why we have plates, braces, expanders etc in the dental world. So, if your child has a dummy in their mouth especially for extended periods, then this is your child’s orthodontic appliance and their teeth and bones WILL MOVE. Promise!
-
∘ They do not encourage preparing for speech development with the normal babbling and cooing.
-
∘ They do not allow your child to learn facial expression and emotions by copying your facials.
