What does self-care look like for you? Maybe it's yoga, a spa day or enjoying the great outdoors. Or perhaps it's taking a nap, talking to your therapist or watching your favorite show. The point is, there's no one-size fits all approach when it comes to taking care of your mental health—it's all about what makes YOU feel good, refreshed and at peace. Let us know how you practice #selfcare in the comments below!
Today, I am guilty of doing something... I found myself thinking “you’re not doing enough”. This is something I’ve always struggled with as a perfectionist. I never felt like what I had to give was ever enough I could always do better or more.
I take the term there is always room for improvement way too seriously.
I found myself run down trying to be Superman. Last night I went to bed earlier than normal and forgot to set an alarm and found myself waking up 11 hours later... that is so not like me. However, it was my body saying to me “slow down love”. Waking up later than I usually do I let frustration in “how could you be so lazy” “you wasted the day” “you are unproductive” the list of hate went on.
Then I stopped and thought, my body showed me it NEEDED that sleep. That sleep helped me take care of myself internally. I am healthy and well and thankful that I get to sleep and wake up.
Today, I am okay and that’s a great day.
For all my perfectionists out there, do not forget that your worth is not determined by your productivity. You are enough for who you are.
Happy Saturday!

Highly sensitive people are likely to feel overstimulated in social settings, due to their ability to connect with, and feel the feelings of others. This isn't explicitly linked to introversion vs. extroversion as roughly 30% of HSPs are extroverted. Rather this has to do with the cognitive and emotional resources HSPs use when around others.⠀
⠀
HSPs may be the life of the party, the creative type, the friend that people turn to in moments of distress. HSPs may also prefer to observe and sense out their environment, and may feel better connected in one-on-one situations. ⠀
⠀
When a highly sensitive person is overstimulated, they may emotionally retreat, in order to preserve their resources, or process what is going on around them. The need and desire to "go offline" socially has little to do with others, and far more to do with their need to attend to their internal boundaries. Granted, the silence may be a response to something in the environment, but it is not a reactive move, rather, it is a way the HSP can internally recharge and reduce the impact of the environment on their mood, body, and mind.⠀
⠀
When an HSP is quiet, it is not a personal attack on another person. It is not the silent treatment. It is not payback for something that was said. It is self-preservation. It is self-reflection. It is self-care.⠀
⠀
To all of my highly sensitive followers and friends, I see you. You are allowed to respond to your environment in any way that brings you comfort or rest.⠀
⠀
Thanks @this_empowered_life for sharing your process of being quiet with me.⠀

Simple, yet life-changing concept.
As a culture, one of our favorite bodily cues to ignore is feeling tired. When we start to feel fatigued, our instinct has become to amp ourselves up with caffeine or other stimulants, push through the exhaustion til we get that “second wind,” then keep going until we crash. Anyone else familiar with this cycle? ♀️. The drive to constantly be doing/accomplishing/producing can sometimes feel more important than anything.
But rest is productive. Our bodies (and minds) NEED periods of stillness in order to keep moving & working effectively. It’s how we are built to function.
So that being said... time for my Saturday afternoon nap .
it’s very important to remind others to take good care of themselves. but it’s even more important to remind yourself first.
