DAYS 64-68 FUN! Megatram was in full swing on the trail and we had a blast! The days have been longer and hotter, but it’s not breaking our spirit. I’ve so enjoyed hiking with my new big tramily and experiencing Virginia together. This week we saw a giant tree, passed 700, and played on the cliffs of Dragon’s Tooth We decided to wake up and night hike to McAfee Knob for sunrise. This was definitely one of the most beautiful moments on the trail. Day 58 | 8.3 Mi | Mile 611.9 Jenny Knob Shelter to Dismal Falls 9:37 AM Yeah, I needed my sleep so I didn’t get out of bed until 9. Everything is still wet, but it seemed to dry out a lot last night somehow. I have everything laid out right now trying to dry it as much as I can but there’s not much sun. I think I’ll leave everything out for another 20 minutes or so before I pack up and head out. Once I find a sunny field I’ll lay everything out again. The cut on my heel might prove to be the biggest annoyance resulting from last night. Every step I take it reopens and bleeds. Gonna do what I can to take care of it but I think it might end up being a real issue. It’s a deep cut. Luckily most of it was callus so it’s not suuuuuper bleedy. 10:38 AM Just about to leave the shelter. I dried everything as well as I could but I definitely still need a sunny field. Not gonna make 24 today, but we’ll see how far I get. 3:00 PM Just arrived at dismal falls. Today’s hike has been really easy, bar the heel. Ran into some really nice trail magic (just cocacola) at the first road crossing and listened to podcasts all the way from there to the falls. There’s so much sun at the falls right now so I have everything laid out drying. There hasn’t been any sun patches besides this one today. My stomach has hurt for the last two miles or so and I’m not sure why. Nothing unbearable though. This waterfall looks pretty deep at its base, I think it’s time for a jump. 8:47 PM Whoops. Ended up staying at the falls. The swimming was great and I ran into some people I’d met on the trail but didn’t really know. They offered me a beer and one thing led to another and now my tent is setup here. It’s been a really great day. Got my fair share of swimming in (so cold; so good) and hung out across the river for a long time. There’s a downed tree over the river leading to the other side but it’s *really* unstable haha. I think it’s rotting from the inside out. Ittl sway and sag underneath you, almost enough to throw you off. On the other side of the river I was challenged to build a bow and arrow, so I found a good stick and got my bear hang line out and actually made a pretty decent bow...

It was the end of Summer when I reached Washington during my Pacific Crest Trail through-hike in 2018. Forest fires were active nearby and I had already taken several fire detours. . In this image, 'Old Timer' checks out the morning view of Mt. Rainier from the PCT, which had been obscured by the smoke from fires the day before. Day 46 (5/25/19) 1.8 Miles / 653.9 Miles Total ———————————————— • Starting the day out with @jchm92 in our new suburban IL town unpacking boxes after moving the previous day • Flying back to LA to hop back on the trail from where I left off • A long Uber ride and lots of conversation on the way to the trailhead (shoutout to @vd_anbu who managed to not drive off the road every time I said something crazy... e.g., “I’m walking to Canada”, “I’ve already hiked 650 miles”, “You’re literally just going to drop me off on the side of a highway 2 hours from LA” ) • Hiking to the nearest campsite out of Walker Pass to get back into the mountains • Cowgirl camping on my own for the first time ever (!!) under a perfectly clear, constellation-filled sky and watching the cars drive by far below✨
