I’m an average homemaker at best. . . The bed is never perfectly made, for one example. The list goes on. ‍♀️ . . We have less, so we make less messes, but still, there are messes. . . Minimalism doesn’t make for a perfectly tidy home- but a perfectly tidy home brings about as much lasting joy as too much stuff- so, like, none. (Homemaking is a worthy calling but pursuing perfection is not.) . . But what minimalism does bring? More space. More time. And by letting go of what I once counted important enough to spend money on and store up? Minimalism has helped me shift my mindset to realizing that’s not where joy is. I have joy right here. It’s helped me shift to a state of gratitude, and to lean on that even in the hard & mundane. . . It’s made me realize that the best things have been here all along- they’ve never been buy-able. And the when we let go of what’s been cluttering our lives and our homes? We make space for the best things. And ordinary life turns a little magical when it’s given the space to do so. . . If you’ve believed a vibrant life can be bought in a store, or found in a perfectly tidy home, at that? Think again. And look around. . . Maybe you’ll see it- your life is already vibrant. Let it be colored most by what matters- your people. Give them the space and time and energy that used to be used up by things that don’t matter- like stuff or the pursuit of perfection- and watch them color your life. . .
