I took this photo last night sipping on my coffee. I was trying to stay awake for as long as I could to take in the march of all the wildlife finishing off their day with some water. This is Okaukuejo water hole at the Etosha National Park. Namibia is otherworldly and I have been bitten by the African travel bug. It’s only been 3 days here but I am blown away. Namibia is incredible. Truly incredible. I have so much to share with you all. Tips and tricks and all the places to visit. Budget travel and otherwise. Also videos! This time I made so many videos. Unfortunately, drones weren’t allowed here. Day 1 We reached Windhoek, the capital city of Namibia on Sunday. We rented a 4WD and bought our SIM cards to get better coverage. We also got week long groceries. Our kids are decisive (not picky ) eaters so we always buy our own groceries to avoid the hangry situation Equipped with all the necessities, we drove from Windhoek to Okaukuejo where Etosha National Park is located. This was a 5 hour long, very interesting drive. Driving in a new country gives you a chance to really see the country, discover the unique flora and fauna, and observe the terrain. During our drive, we saw monkeys, baboons and warthogs in their natural habitats on the road sides. The terrain was flat, sandy and dry. Since, Namibia is one of the least densely populated countries, we found that it is very clean just like the developed world. The majority of the highways from Windhoek to Okaukuejo are tarred however when we got close to the destination, untarred roads started. We learned from the locals that the roads were kept untarred so people won’t drive fast and get into accidents hitting the animals. We reached our camp, Taleni Etosha Village, by 8:00 pm at night. Taleni was adequate however the WiFi connection was poor and there were no cellular signals. Day 2 Monday started with a nice buffet breakfast at Taleni, we took our time getting ourselves ready and made it to the park at 10:30 am. We found out later that this was too late. In order to view big game, you have to start when the park opens at 7:25 am. We started our game drive with a decision to visit all the waterholes since most wild animals will come to drink water. This was more of an “explore” drive and we were in the park until sunset, that’s 8 hours! And they flew by fast. ..... continued......

You guys, Zaki and I are jumping off the plane , It’s our first ever skydiving experience! —— ...continued from yesterday..... Day 2 We finished off our self drive with a nice dinner at Taleni. Game meat like kudu, oryx, wildebeest and zebra etc was on the buffet table and the dessert menu was extensive. Namibian food is surprisingly delicious and hot! Their spices are perfection. After dinner, we booked a day safari for the next day. We were told it will be very cold in the morning. Day 3 It was 50 degrees that morning and in an open air game drive vehicle, it was frigid. We were the 4th car in line when the park gates opened, which was great because We were one of the first ones to get to all the waterholes for game viewing. When you are too late, you may not get space if there happens to be big game like lions at the waterhole. Our tour guide driver was very knowledgeable (swipe left). One tip is to always talk to the locals, they give you the best advice about where to go and what to see. We saw almost every animal except for the lions ‍♀️. We stood about 30 min at the famous nebrowni waterhole but the lions didn’t come. The morning drive ended at noon and we were at our camp for lunch where we were joined by my kudu friend (swipe left) The food, as usual, was delicious. They paid special attention to getting us halal food, which was very nice. Ok so here we decided, our trip would be incomplete without seeing the lions. And from what we had seen, Okaukuejo camp was the place to be (see last post) After our lunch, we headed back to the park and to the Okaukuejo camp to ask them for a room! I know we were already staying at Taleni but we figured it was worth it to stay one night at Okaukuejo. We got two chalets right in front of the waterhole! Like a few steps from our room entrance we could view every animal that was going to visit the waterhole. That night was a literal dream come true. we saw a herd of elephants, white and black rhinos and giraffes at the water hole. The parade of elephants, blowing dust with every step was truly majestic.
