Day 6 - Well it had to happen sooner or later . We heard a squealing sound when changing gears that made us a tad uneasy so thankfully we found the company Boreal transport in Kirkenes. They were kind enough to take a look straight away. We played a video of the gear change when driving and Frederick and Ole identified the problem immediately. It was a loose alternator belt. During the next 72 hours of  international roadcheck, the commercial vehicle safety alliance would be inspecting close to seventeen trucks or buses per minute across North America. Vehicles with a critical inspection item violation would be rendered out of service till the problem is addressed. You can prevent any violation of our safety standards by taking the following precautions - Steering and suspension systems - Make sure the steering lash is within the allowable lash distance. Look for misalignments , cracks , missing or loose parts in your suspension. Brake System - Check your warning devices. For example ABS malfunctioning lamps should work properly. Check for missing , non functioning or broken parts. Check to see that the slack adjuster length, air chamber size and air pressure comply with comply with CVSA standards. Coupling devices and fifth wheel components - Check to see that safety devices like chains and wire ropes are strong enough . Fuel and exhaust systems - Look for unsecure mounting, leaks, contact between components and electronic wiring and excessive carbon deposits around seams and clamps. Frames - Check to see that frames are free of corrosion fatigue, cracks and loose or missing cross members. Lighting - Check for improper color, non-functioning parts, incorrect mounting and blocked visibility in all lighting devices. Your Load - Make sure it’s secured by checking gates, rear doors and tail board security. Have the proper number and size of cargo securement devices. Ensure that tie down anchor points have no deformation and cracking. Tires - Check for proper inflation and that tires are devoid of cuts, bulges and excess tread wear. Currently feeling envious of everyone with an office job sitting at a desk in there air conditioned environment. It is 35.9 degree in the factory I am working in, but under the hood of this truck it is 53.8 degree.
