Tatiana Nikolaevna and the serbian prince Alexander Karadjordjevitch. An almost marriage. According to some sources, the serbian king Peter I wanted Tatiana as a bride to his youngest son, Prince Alexander Karadjordjevitch. In January 1914, Serbian Prime Minister Nikola Pašić delivered a letter to Tsar Nicholas II in which King Peter expressed his son's desire to marry one of the Grand Duchesses. Nicholas, however, replied that he would allow his daughters to decide whom to marry, but he realized that the serbian prince Alexander often contemplated Tatiana during a family dinner. Negotiations and marriage ended because of the outbreak of the First World War. Tatiana exchanged letters with Alexander during World War I and he was devastated when he learned of her death. Alexander wrote in his diary the following: "Tatiana is and will always be an example to me, was wonderful and worthy of the admiration of all. I wish I could have died in your place. I would give my life for you, without thinking twice. A wonderful daughter and sister who has always been committed to the well-being of her family and never motivated by her own interests. A selection of photos of the front facade of the Alexander Palace at Tsarskoye Selo which I took very early one morning during a recent visit. I’ve included a photo of the entrance to the wing containing the private rooms of the last imperial family who lived there from the final years of the 19th century through to 1917. The Palace was built for Alexander I in a Neo-Palladian style during the late 18th century by his grandmother, Catherine II. It remained a favourite Romanov home through to the revolution. The imperial family under house arrest at the Alexander Palace: At eleven o'clock, the generals Guchkov and Kornilov arrived at the Alexander palace accompanied by 21 members of the Revolutionary Council of the city of Tsarskoe Selo. While the empress was being given generals, the twenty others, mostly soldiers and laborers, wandered around the palace insulting the servants. It turns out that the generals had gone to the Alexander palace only to investigate the situation of the palace and offer protection of the Provisional Government to the empress and the children. In the days leading up to Nicholas's arrival, Alexandra began to burn her diaries and all the letters of Queen Victoria and the Queen's letters to Alexandra. On the morning of March 21, 1917, General Kornilov returned to the palace, but with the mission of placing Alexandra in detention. He also said that Nicholas was detained Mogilev and would arrive at Tsarskoe Selo the next day. She sobbed, and the general's eyes were also with tears. He also warned officers and employees that Alexandra and Nicholas were under house arrest and anyone who decided to stay, would also be in jail. On the 22nd, Nicholas's train arrived and was taken to the palace, suffering humiliation. At the top of the palace, Alexandra heard the sound of Nicholas's car. At the same instant she rose to her feet with a shout and ran toward her husband. Alone in the nursery, they fell into each other's arms. With tears in her eyes, Alexandra assured her that her husband and father were infinitely more important than the Tsar.
