I’ve lived on California street for ages now. I pass by this spot on a daily basis and have even used this very cable car to commute to and from work. Somehow, this weekend it took @ryanditchphoto coming into town to finally get the classic California street shot. . . What’s a local landmark you never experience until someone comes to visit?

Throw back to one of my favorite roadside attractions of all time!⁠ Created in 1989 by Dustin Shuler, The Spindle (AKA the Car Kabob AKA Cars on a Spike) had graced Cermak Plaza in Berwyn, Illinois for almost as long as I’d been alive. The spindle sculpture towered above the parked cars in the lot, showcasing vehicles from the late 1960s to early 1980s impaled on a 50-foot spike. To me, this Illinois roadside attraction is best known as being my first real glimpse of roadside oddities, to others it is probably best known for its cameo in the Bohemian Rhapsody scene in the Wayne’s World film.⁠ ⁠ Unfortunately, it was torn down in 2008 to make way for a Walgreens.⁠ ⁠ Want more info on The Spindle?
