Here’s a quick clip of my dad and I testing out the almost finished vacuum forming machine. We grabbed every small vacuum mold we had lying around for our test run. Everything is working excellent! Just have to button up a few more things and this machine will be complete. Recently I heavily dug myself into trying to finish my Chief armour. Unfortunately I failed but here’s some interesting progress shots! ————————————————— Over 6L of resin has gone into the suit & I tried my hand at many new skills including mould making, visor tinting, and shaping over the last few weeks which was a lot of fun! One of the questions we’re asked frequently is: “how did you do the helmet?” ‍♀️ . So here’s a quick rundown: - Create 3D model to my measurements (3h) - Print parts (18h) - Sand, and glue the parts together (6h) - Kit seams and sand some more (4h) - Vacuum form the visor and cut it into shape (2h) - Prime the helmet and dye the visor (3h) - Add electronics (2h) - Do the paintjob and glue in the dyed visor (6h) - Add fastenings (1h) . Even though it’s a 3D print, there’s still a lot of work that goes into it. All in all it probably took us over 45h to make (considering it was our first time, so we’re not that experienced yet). . So far it’s the biggest print we did, but we also learned a lot in the process and would definitely improve on a few things if we had the chance to. . Sanding is a major bitch but the surfaces get so smoooooth and vacuum forming is satisfying as fuck, too. We really enjoyed this project! .
