Veronese‘s early Supper at Emmaus, his first representation of a biblical theme, executed around 1559 @museelouvre
The whole family of the (unidentified) patron seems to be depicted in this painting. The little children, playing with the dogs, are adorable! They form a wonderful contrast to the serious and heroic biblical figures sitting at the table. ✨✨
I didn‘t manage to take a photo of the whole painting (it‘s in the room as Leonardo‘s Mona Lisa), and the last image is from wikipedia... ⠀⠀⠀⠀

This #veronese #chapel is hidden on the #montebaldo #mountainside in the #Italianvillage of #Spiazzi. If you’re driving to the province of #veronaitaly it’s a must see. There’s a parking lot at the top where you’ll leave your car. From there you will follow the signs to stairs that will lead you down a path along the #cliffside. The walk down takes about 20 minutes, and I recommend getting the shuttle back to the top.
When #traveling to #santuariomadonnadellacorona be aware that there is a dress code to enter the #church and if you don’t adhere they will deny you entry. -------------------------------------------- #verona #ferraradimontebaldo #mountbaldo #chapel #cliff #cliffs #italianchurch #italianchapel #italianarchitecture #topitalyphoto #italianvillages #travel #mountains #mountain #italy #italia #northernitaly

Charles I by Anthony van Dyck. Drawing in black chalk c.1632. (Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam). Van Dyck studied the drawings and paintings of the Italian masters. He was inspired by Veronese and Titian but also by Rubens, who was his teacher. His style is influenced by a style common in Genoa, in which extremely tall but graceful figures assume almost balletic poses. -
I’m often asked; “I’d like to learn to draw. How should I go about it?”, and my answer is always the same: “Study and copy drawings made by the old masters”. That’s how every artist was trained to draw until the 1960s. Learn from the best. Never copy a photograph. A photograph, even an artistically styled one, was created by a machine. It does not contain the touch, the spirit of the artist. The lines of a drawing are like handwriting. They show us the temperament and character of the person who drew it. Accuracy is important, but delicately expressing the music of the forms and weaving them together to form a whole that flows and communicates something of the sitter or subject and the artist’s interaction with that subject is even more important. When you draw, you are involved in an act of magic, coaxing something new and beautiful into the world. I see drawing as a sacred act. This is something you probably won’t hear said in most art schools today, but it’s the way artists were trained to see and to work for thousands of years. Beauty was their aim, even when depicting disturbing events.
