It’s not every day I get to try Cambodian cuisine, but after seeing @nyumbai mentioned positively in so many articles, we had to give it a try. We got there right when it opened for lunch, and shortly after, the place was packed! Since we had a full day of eating ahead, we only ordered a few dishes. @thegastropig’s name was already enticing enough for us to visit, but they also sell breakfast/brunch items all day long! Since I LOOOOVE brunch so much, we had to check this place out. The menu has all the staple breakfast items like eggs, potatoes, bacon and house-made sausage presented in different delicious variations. Lunchie stuff includes a burger, BLT, and pulled pork sandwich. I can see why so many people are celebrating @nyumbai. Lok lak was one of my favorite dishes, a flavorful “shaken beef” with kampot peppercorns, lime and pepper sauce, and a beautifully fried egg.

In Old Oakland, a great place to eat is at the historic Swan’s Market. It’s a chill vibe and every restaurant in there is making some delicious looking things! We got to try a few items from @cosechacafe, @thecookandherfarmer, and @cupcakinbakeshop. Check out the slideshow for all the tasty things we had! Honestly, it’s been exciting for me to take a break from Korean, Japanese, and Chinese cuisine to explore something unfamiliar with me: Southeast Asian food. After experiencing Indonesian food a few weeks ago, I was looking forward to trying the Phnom Penh street cuisine at critically lauded @nyumbai. - 1. Koh - caramelized pork belly, bamboo shoots, fried egg, simmered in coconut water, ginger, palm sugar Pork belly just melted and broke apart. Loved the way the creamy yolk caressed the rice and became one with the broth. I haven’t had Cambodian food so unsure if the dish is supposed to have a sweet aftertaste. 2. Fried chicken with ginger sauce The ginger really makes this the most refreshing rendition of Asian fried chicken as of late. Batter was perfectly crispy without being oily. 3. Kuy Teav Phnom Penh - rice noodle soup in pork broth, sliced brisket, minced pork, shrimp, herbs, crispy garlic, lime, meatballs Wow - clean, homey soup that was comforting and not salty.
