I’ve done this and I know a lot of people do this regularly in the health and wellness realm...and that is focusing or overhyping a single food or nutrient. It’s not that this is a bad thing especially since I love knowing all of these great nutrients that are in my food, but sometimes it can distort our expectations. For example, there is a golden halo over something like turmeric. And as good as it is, will you end up being classified as unhealthy if you leave it out of a really healthy diet? Of course not! Same goes for if you are only eating turmeric infused Twinkies. The turmeric is not going to magically cancel out the Twinkie. It’s only one nutrient in the grand scheme of things. What truly matters at the end of the day is the full conglomerate of food we choose to eat. If you eat a lot of nourishing foods, you will be nourished. If you eat mostly foods that make you feel crummy, then that is likely how you will feel. Unfortunately, throwing a handful of goji berries at a poor diet won’t do anything to make you feel better. .
Dinner bowl today includes some fennel infused brown rice, reheated frozen kale, avocado, and sautéed Seitan with peppers, fire roasted corn, garlic and soy sauce. Basic, but just as nutritious as anything with any fancy ingredients.
