OCEANS WITHOUT FISH BY 2050.
We have been warned #wakeupworld
•
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) stated “More than 30 percent of the world’s fisheries have been pushed beyond their biological limits and are in need of strict management plans to restore them. Several important commercial fish populations (such as Atlantic bluefin tuna) have declined to the point where their survival as a species is threatened.”
•
If humans keep fishing at the current pace, there will be no more fish left in the oceans by 2048. A 2006 study by Boris Worm, PhD, of Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, — with colleagues in the U.K., U.S., Sweden, and Panama says that if humans keep fishing at the current pace, there will be no more fish left in the oceans by 2048. “I was shocked and disturbed by how consistent these trends are — beyond anything we suspected,” Worm said in a news release.
•
“This isn’t predicted to happen. This is happening now,” study researcher Nicola Beaumont, PhD, of the Plymouth Marine Laboratory, U.K., said in a news release.
•
Stephen Palumbi and Stanford colleague Fiorenza Micheli, assistant professor of biological sciences at Hopkins, are two of 14 co-authors of the 2006 Science study, the first major analysis of all existing datasets—historical, experimental, fisheries and observational—on ocean species and ecosystems. Based on current global trends, the authors predicted that every species of wild-caught seafood—from tuna to sardines—will collapse by the year 2050. “Collapse” was defined as a 90 percent depletion.
•
The existing world fishing fleet is two to three times larger than the oceans can support and 85 percent of the world’s fish populations are either nearly extinct, on the way to extinction or brought to an unsustainable population size.

Probably the greatest gift we can give to others and ourselves is permission to heal through giving space, releasing emotion, allowing time to pass, touch, and friendship

Well this is a sad post. Koalas have been declared "Functionally Extinct" which describes an animal population "which has so few pairs that they are unlikely to produce a new generation". There are 80,000 in the wild but that's jumped down from 330,000 in the last three years alone! Koalas are dying out primarily due to loss of habitat and more intense heatwaves cause by climate change. NOW is the time to start thinking what we can do to transition our world from one of destruction to one that lives in harmony with nature. Let's start by supporting wildlife conservation charities and green new deals! Come on humanity! #extinctionrebellion #plantmoretrees #savetheanimals #savetheplanet #itstartsNOW #climatechange #systemchange #extinction #koala #koalas #koalaextinction #wakeupworld @extinctionrebellion
#PRESSUREONCOROPORATIONS - The fight for the Great Australian Bight, the biggest environmental protest Australia has ever seen
⠀⠀⠀
How deep is our need for oil? ⠀⠀⠀
Currently the Norwegian oil giant Equinor is proposing plans to dill in the Great Australian Bight. The waters of the Bight are deep and rough and up until now this has protected them to some degree from exploitation ensuring that these waters are a pristine untouched ecosystem. Yet this is now under threat with the release of the draft application to drill in the Bight by Equinor.
⠀⠀⠀
‘The Fight for the Bight is now one of the biggest environmental protests Australia has ever seen and is gaining traction around the world. Equinor will be deeply shocked if it thinks the protests will disappear if it gets an approval. Australia’s biggest environmental protests, over the Adani coal mine, the Franklin Dam and the Tamar Valley pulp mill, have only escalated dramatically when approvals have been given,’ he said.
⠀⠀⠀
Thousands of people have filled beaches and oceans across the country in recent weeks of their own accord. It hasn’t just been surfers taking part but people all over the country and the world showing their support for the Fight for the Bight. It’s a testament to how incredible humans can be when issues like this arise and inspires us to bring the fight to our politicians and these corporations.
Siempre viene bien recordarlo, no?
Daf
