I’m still loving how this super easy, and cost effective, DIY shiplap made such a difference to this water closet. Are you a DIYer? I’m usually not because I lack patience and the ability to work power tools, but this was a fun half day project the husband and I did together. Good morning, and happy Saturday! If you saw my stories last weekend you may remember that we were shiplapping our master water closet. This was such an easy, half day project that was very cost effective, and I think the shiplap makes such a difference (Swipe ⬅️ to see the before). We decided to go with the underlayment method and have it cut down to the board size we needed as opposed to buying the individual, pre-cut shiplap pieces. The cost difference was significant and I think it turned just as well (in my biased opinion). I also decided to poll the audience as to whether to keep the boards rough and white washed looking vs. painting them, and the majority voted to leave it rough and unfinished, which I completely agree! . This is a fragment of the unfortunately named 19th century ‘Vulcania’ washdown (ie gravity operated) water closet. The only example I can find is on eBay: swipe to see a picture. If anyone knows more about this firm, I will be delighted. Particularly if it’s a brand made by Thomas Crapper (who didn’t, incidentally, invent the loo - that honour went to Sir John Harrington, Godson of Queen Elizabeth I, in 1596). You can actually buy a hand painted floral toilet on amazon for 599 - I want one!
