We don't get to develop as much color infrared slide film as we used to... the supply has begun to really dry up. But the fine folks at the @filmphotographyproject recently, and briefly, reintroduced a new batch (which promptly sold out). This in turn prompted one of our customers to load up her Olympus OM-1n with a roll that she had been hoarding and she shared this image with us. The roll has been finished and is currently sitting in our queue waiting to get developed, so we are still anticipating the results.⠀ ⠀ If you are sitting on a roll yourself, there is little time like the present to get it through a camera. In our experience infrared films don't tend to store well, so it is usually better to use them sooner than later, and if it is going to be later, keep the film on ice... literally. Be careful in your loading. Color infrared really does have to be loaded and unloaded in complete darkness. You ought to never expose the can itself to light, as that can fog the film inside the can. Likewise, be careful about using this film in a camera that employs infrared sensors for detecting film advance as those can also fog your very expensive and rare film. ⠀ Speaking of fogging, also mind where you have this film developed. Ideally you want to use a lab that is not going to run it through your typical roller transport machine as those also use infrared sensors that can fog this film. Labs that use dip-and-dunk or other methods (such as we do) are a safer bet. Make sure to ask your lab about this before dropping the film off and mind that lab technician who sees the closed up plastic film can and wants to pop it open right there at the counter thereby fogging a good portion of that roll of film. ⠀ ⠀ Whew! So many potential pitfalls with this stuff, but a bit of care and the results really can be pretty darn magical!⠀

If you are a fan of overly large sheets of film (or even just those of esoteric and odd sizes) this is an important time for you. Every year during May, Ilford takes orders as part of their ULF program. They allow photographers to pre-order boxes of 8x20, 11x14, 2.25x3.25, 40mm rolls and so on. The ordering period runs only a month and we are taking our last orders on the 21st. After that it will be another year. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ To help demonstrate the allure of these formats, we had @sleepy_dp bring in this 11x14 #ilfordhp5 negative from a portrait session he did with his grandfather on an old studio 11x14 camera that he adopted.
