Every day I put Finn in his wheelchair and take him for a walk around the neighborhood. I watch him take his time weaving back and fourth up the sidewalk and I can almost predict every single spot he will stop to sniff. He has his favorites, for sure, and he is in no rush to get past them. As some of you know, Finn LOVES to sniff. He will stand in certain spots for up to ten minutes sometimes just happily smelling away. I used to get incredibly impatient about this and put a time limit on the sniffing - when the time was up I would hurry him along. Now, though, I let him take as long as he wants. He seems very satisfied with sniffing to his hearts content, veering to wherever his nose takes him. Sometimes he will even start to go and then turn around as if he really thought he missed something. Sometimes mid sniff he will look up at me with a proud face as if he has solved a mystery. Sometimes he will start to sniff and instantly move away as if he is disgusted by what he found. Sometimes he will just hold his head up to the sky and twitch his nose back and fourth, taking as much of it in as he can. Oddly, where it used to annoy me to no end having to wait for him, watching Finn sniff and read the neighborhood “daily mail” on the plants has become one of my favorite things to do. It is truly just such a simple pleasure for him. I just wish he could share the all the gossip with me! — #ilovemydog #dogmomlife #rescuedogsrock #agoodsniff
Meet Yogi! #adoptableadventurer Yogi is an approximately 2 year old lab mix who is currently being fostered by @blue.eyes.bella in Calgary, Alberta. Yogi is an avid outdoorsman and loves to hike, paddleboard, swim, and pretty much anything else outside! When he is not adventuring, Yogi loves to nap anywhere and everywhere in the house and can contort his body to fit most spaces. But his favorite space is right next to his humans, preferably as close as he can get, as he is an absolute cuddle bug. Yogi is entirely house trained and kennel trained and does great in the kennel when his foster human is gone to work. Yogi also is extremely smart and has excellent recall. He is also neutered and up to date on all his vaccinations.
Yogi is great with dogs and people but would prefer a home without cats or young children (under 10) as he can be a bit excitable. Yogi also needs an active home that will allow him to run and swim to his hearts content. He is available for adoption through @ejrescuecanada

Some of our satos spent the day in Central Park! Xander, Siara and Peter just arrived in NYC three days ago, but they’re warming up to the rush and learning to take the city noises like champs. Xena has been searching for her furever home for over a month, so she’s a pro with NYC at this point. Click the link in our bio or go to alrcares.com to learn more about any of these adoptable pups!
A few things Arlo cares about: His toys. Playing. Watching squirrels. Rolling. Eating. Being at the door when we get home. Barking at the mailman. Swimming. Finn. A few things Arlo does not care about: If another dog likes him or not. What collar or harness another dog is wearing. If another dog has more toys than he does. If another dog is taller, shorter, heavier or lighter than he is. If another dog hiked faster, longer or higher than him. If another dog has a bigger yard than him. If another dog can catch a ball and he can’t. If another dog doesn’t want to play with a stick, that doesn’t make Arlo change his opinion of a stick. My point!? Arlo is happy just being himself - plain and simple. This is one of the many things I love about dogs. They are themselves through and through - they don’t care about trends or opinions and they aren’t attached to any sort of validation. They don’t take things personally. They shake it off and move on when things don’t go their way. I to be more like this. More like a dog. More like Arlo. Who is with me? — #ilovemydog #rescuedogsrock #dogmomlife

Nala is a true rescue! I found her on the side of the road while I was in college. It took me an hour to coax her to me because she was so scared, but once she was in my arms, she never left them. She has been my best friend ever since. She is the most loyal companion and fierce protector I could ever ask for. We moved in with Adam a few years down the road and he proved to be the BEST dog dad ever! Later, we decided Nala needed a brother and we knew we wanted to adopt (preferably a pitbull). We went to Paws Place Animal Shelter in Winnabow, NC and the second we laid eyes on Boone, we knew he was THE ONE. He was a 4 month old puppy in a liter of EIGHT boys and he was the most rambunctious of his siblings – jumping, biting, playing, and barking as soon as they let him out of the kennel. On the car ride home after meeting him, I filled out the application to adopt him. Boone is the funniest pup you’ll ever meet, and constantly makes us laugh! Nala is the best big sister to Boone & Boone brings out the puppy in Nala -- I truly believe he keeps her young! They make us happier than we could ever imagine!

Oh my beautiful boy, what can I say? From a life of dogfighting, to coming minutes away from being euthanized at the age of 9, to kicking cancer's ass this year at the age of 13. °

Joey came into my life when I was emotionally falling apart almost 6 years ago.
I was dealing with something very serious and I was struggling to keep my head above water. I was angry at the whole world, and I couldn't wrap my head around the hand that I was dealt. This led to me sinking into a pretty deep depression. Things as of lately have become difficult again for me, yet I'm now armed with the many lessons that he has & continues to teach.
When Joe came along, he helped me to realize that we don't choose our fate; but instead it chooses us. Everything happens for a reason, even if it takes us a lifetime to learn what that reason is.
He inspires me on a daily basis with his strength and continues to save me, every single day.
He taught me that hate will eat away at your heart, until there's nothing left.
He taught me that forgiveness doesn't change the past, but it does bring peace and enlarge the future.
Joey continues to teach me that every day is a second chance. He taught me to live in the moment, never to hold grudges, to accept myself and more over to love unconditionally. He taught me that in my weakest moments, I am still strong.
Lastly...he taught me that what matters most is not the first, but the last chapter of our life; which shows how well we ran the race.
Thank you for being my very best friend, my heart dog, my secret keeper, my soul animal, my reason, my savior and my main man. Of all the things my heart has loved, the best by far is you. #leveragelove

“This is stupid.” I uttered this in my head and out loud about 6 billion times last week on our climb up Mount Adams. I knew it was going to be a challenge for me - both physically and mentally. I knew there would be snow fields, steep pushes and false summits. I knew I was going to feel uncomfortable. That I was going to question my ability. While the climb doesn’t require a ton of technical experience, it is unrelenting and demands all of your energy. Most climbers use the Lunch Counter (about 3k feet below the summit) as a basecamp and summit early in the morning after getting a night of sleep. We chose to do the full climb in a single push and once again picked our headlamps and night hiking over our pillows. From midnight until 7:30 a.m. I took command in the rear of our pack - watching Arlo, Winnie, @thepaulofthewild @life.with.winnie @scottrumley and @sharem01 in front of me blasting up the steep, wretched snow fields - making it look effortless. “This is stupid,” I would say, as I watched them increase the distance between us. They would wait for me at the top of ridges - cheering me on and inquiring about my state of mind. “I seriously am going to vomit,” or “I am going to stab myself with this axe,” I would say, as soon as I caught my breath. At the top of each ridge I hoped I would look up and see the final push, and each time my spirits were killed as I looked up to see even more icy snowfields. Finally, after hours of suffering, at 7:30 a.m. we reached the summit. We were officially standing on the second highest peak in Washington. Rainier, a little over 2k feet higher, Mount St. Helens, almost 4k feet lower and Mount Hood, just about 1k feet lower dotted the horizon around us. While I didn’t enjoy most of the climb, I am so grateful to have made it to the top! It is a fun feeling seeing this beast of a mountain from a distance, knowing I stood on its summit! Thank you Paul, Callie, Scott and Emily for being the best trail team ever - July was a big month for us! — #ilovemydog #rescuedogsrock #dogmomlife #volcaNOmoreforawhile
