Fencing, or billing, is a mutual greeting amongst the Northern gannets. There are around 2500 breeding pairs in Mykines. Gannet pairs are monogamous and may remain together over several seasons, if not for all of their lives. The pairs separate when their chicks leave the nest but they bond again the following year. Should one of the pair die, the other bird will find another mate. Another fun and surprising find in Banff was an American Three-toed Woodpecker. Normally I have to put it a lot of effort to seek out this species, but this time I found one by accident. Isn’t that the best?

Exhausted Cheetah in Monochrome, Sabi Sands. This may or may not be my last post for a couple of weeks as I am departing for Madikwe Game Reserve and later Pilanesberg in South Africa. As internet connectivity is available I will post when I can. Looking forward to getting back to South Africa and hanging out with @andrewdankwerts from @wildeyesa on this safari and seeing what awesome sightings there are in Madikwe. Cheetah factoid: Cheetahs are extremely fast however they tire quickly and can only keep up their top speed for a few minutes before they are too tired to continue. . Photo Tip: When riding in safari jeeps usually there is always a lot of dust flying around, so when we’re on the move, I usually cover my cameras and lenses with a cloth, a towel or even a blanket to minimize dust getting on my equipment. Low to the ground - arctic fields in full bloom, Muskox hooves felt reverberating in the earth - a dull but present thump, as a hairy molting form sways to the rhythm of spring. 1 week up here was enough to change me forever. I went to Banff with dreams of seeing mammals like bears, elk, big horn sheep etc. What I wasn’t expecting was how great the Warbler scene was. 5 minutes into my first trail on day 1 I had the closest views *ever* of a Townsend’s Warbler. These birds are canopy breeders so are mostly heard not seen! And when seen, never seen like this
