My hubby did a thing! He built a tanoor with materials entirely from our land. For weeks he collected clay, wood ash and hay, then mixed with water and layered in rings. He’d then light a fire to dry out the cob and turn it into cement. All this so we can have fresh flatbread, lavash, naan etc. A natural, rustic oven to keep us fed all summer. ➡️ swipe for a photo of the oven and the final product.
This was the first view I had of the finished Campfired camper exactly one year ago today. I drove 12 hours the day before and had arranged for pickup first thing in the morning. There had been months of planning and anxiously getting build updates as it all came together. It was pretty unreal to finally see this thing that I had been imagining for so long actually sitting there in the shade of the morning sun. I couldn't have been more excited to get it home and start making pizzas.
SCHIACCIATA made in the Fontana Wood-fired Oven on ✨Instagram Stories & Highlights!✨ Schiacciata is an Italian flat bread sold in every bakery across Tuscany, but more specifically around the Florence area. In other parts of the peninsula, amongst many other names, it is also called focaccia. Schiacciata is simply made from flour, water, yeast and salt. While still piping hot and fresh from the oven it is then drizzled with olive oil, sprinkled with good quality course sea salt and cut into slices. One thing that I’ve noticed here in Toronto, is that we love our Wood-Fired Oven pizzas! Is it the consumer that is driving the ship, or are Toronto restaurant owners just attracted to this particular style of thin, crispy crust pizza?
You can find wood-fired oven pizza in both our QSR (quick service) level establishments, or paired with a bottle of red at our more upscale, sit-down restaurants as well.
We love Margherita & Neapolitan pizza up here in the Great White North, & it’s almost impossible to find the elusive, & polar opposite (thicker crusted) NYC style slice here in the 6ix.
