Making a Leather Burnisher - the hard way. Top to bottom 1. Start with the blank 2. Roughly round it to the largest outside diameter. 3. & 4. Now taper the end. Both of these had to be rejected due to knots or cracks. 5. Now mark out for the grooves. Yup! This was also rejected due to a weakness crack. 6. A finished Leather Craft Workshop Days leather Burnisher made from some lovely rare Yew Wood. . Working with natural materials such as vegetable tanned leather and rare wood’s is wonderful but can certainly have its issues. I do though feel for wood turners as they really don’t know what’s inside until it’s on the lathe. It makes leather hide selecting feel quite easy! We could of course use Beech or Ash due to its uniformity..... but that’s too easy.
