:EMPOWERED CHOICE: . Part of my #33dayprocess has been to try more chanting in my meditation. I’ve worked before with toning, & I wanted to go deeper— but not so deep that I felt overwhelmed by complex phrases in Sanskrit I didn’t understand and would be preoccupied with “getting right.” . In part, this practice is to strengthen my #throatchakra. Not only is this chakra response for expression (and linked to the creative center of the #sacralchakra {CREATIVE+EXPRESSION} but it’s actually also our center of will-power. The #solarplexus may be where we hold our personal power but through the throat, we exercise our most supreme asset: CHOICE. . I decided to start with chanting HU, (pronounced HUE), which is a #Sufism for the essence of God. It was sort of spontaneous one night while in the bath, and I coupled it with a kind of #boxbreathing. It occurred to me I should offer one breath for every year I’ve been alive; 36 breaths (+1 since I’d started already). . Almost immediately, I received a snapshot-style memory from each year of my life as I chanted. Some beautiful, some not so great, some trivial and random. Focused on my breathing, I couldn’t really judge the memory, I could only observe it. Slowly, I tracked back to my birth. That’s when that +1 breath came in like a zinger. . The last breath took me to a place before birth, where I was acutely aware of CHOOSING this life, and all the myriad of experiences it would hold. It was a profound and peaceful awareness that has stayed with me, and returned in the times I’ve practiced this since. . . .
