VICTORY!!! It may not seem like much, but finding a full synthetic oil in a 5W-40 here in Colombia was NOT easy! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Full sythetics are more expensive here, so there isn't as much demand. But, I (Christi) was determined to find it! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You know how you can just go to an AutoZone or wherever in the U.S. and get what you need? Not here! This oil doesn't retail anywhere, as far as we can tell. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So first, I called, emailed, on-line chatted, and FB Messengered an on-line Mobil importer in Bogotá. They sent me to a distributor in Medellín, where I did the same. No response at first, so I called more phone numbers. I was transferred. Again, I tried to explain (in Spanish) what we needed. We were emailed an extensive form to fill out for a delivery. By that time though, Boris's patience was wearing thin, so I was already on a bus on my way to where I guessed the place was (no location on Google Maps). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A bus ride, train ride, and 10 block walk later, I was in front of an unsigned and gated office building alongside a busy highway. But then I saw it! An open warehouse door with what looked like pallets of oil! I explained my story to the security guard. After giving him my passport info and waiting 10 minutes, I was in! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was handed over to the amazingly helpful Sandra to explain again. I filled out a form that required my passport info AND a fingerprint! Random travelers coming in to buy oil at retail is apparently not a common occurrence . Since everyone else was at lunch, we waited and chatted. The fact that I wanted to pay in cash instead of a bank transfer held things up, but FINALLY we went down to the warehouse, where, BEHOLD! There it was! The LAST case of this oil in the whole place! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sandra kindly called me a cab and I began my victorious journey back to the van- A successful hunt.
