When your baby has pincer grasp, it’s like a whole new world of possibility is opened up in terms of the type of food you can offer! Instead of working any of the above foods into recipes that allow baby to use their palmer grasp, you can now serve small, loose pieces of food and have your baby eat by using their thumb and forefinger like this! . Mixed dishes like casseroles with small bits of food (think shepherd’s pie, baked ziti etc.) can be self-fed by your baby without having the need to master utensils yet! Lunch becomes easy when you can pop open a can of beans or thaw frozen peas and serve it directly without needing to make it into a finger shaped food for your baby to eat. . Here are just some of MANY ideas for food you can serve just like that to your little one - no modification required (except for cooking it of course ) . ✔️ Rice - on it’s own or in a mixed dish. I still find sticky rice to be easiest for baby to pick up but regular rice is now possible to eat a few pieces at a time thanks to the pincer grasp . ✔️ Quartered grapes! A new fruit that baby can self feed on that is a great portable snack! . ✔️ Quartered/slightly smushed berries. No more having to spread berries on toast or mix into oatmeal. You can offer it just like that (just make sure it’s quartered or smushed so it’s not a choking hazard) . ✔️ Ground meat of any kind can be served loose or again, as part of a casserole! . ✔️ Clumps of quinoa (or other grain) that is sort of sticky and can be picked up well by baby using their fingers . ✔️ Well cooked beans! White beans, red beans, black beans, etc. . ✔️ Smaller pasta shaped like elbow noodles! . ✔️ Loose corn kernels (my fav as a kid ) . ✔️ Peas! Portable and flexible to go into any mixed dish/soup. .
