У современного входа в Сурб-Саркис по обеим сторонам от дверей находятся два больших григорианских креста. В алтаре церкви сохранилась крестильная купель, украшенная резьбой по камню. Рядом с храмом находится звонница, возведенная в XV веке. Когда-то церковь Святого Сергия украшали фрески, но большинство из них сохранить не удалось. За время своего существования храм пережил несколько реставраций. В 1888 году здание сильно пострадало при пожаре, деньги на реконструкцию пожертвовал художник Иван Айвазовский. Об этом напоминает висящая над входом в храм мемориальная доска. В ходе следующих восстановительных работ в 1965–1970 годах были реконструированы крыша и пол церкви, а также очищены от более поздних наслоений уцелевшие фрески и живописные фрагменты. С церковью Сурб-Саркис связаны важные события жизни художника-мариниста Ивана Айвазовского. Здесь его крестили. Здесь он венчался со своей женой Анной Саркисовой-Бурназян. В 1900 году в храме состоялось отпевание художника. Согласно последней воле Айвазовского, он был похоронен на территории храма.
