#repost @candelamedicalanz ・・・ JAMA-Dermatology has just published Dr. Roy Geronemus’ authored largest study of infants and babies receiving a non-invasive treatment (vs. surgery) for birthmarks, port-wine stains and other vascular related skin conditions on the face and body using the Vbeam laser system. • In this study Dr. Roy Geronemus, M.D. a world authority on the treatment of laser-based vascular anomalies at Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York (@lsscny), treated a total of 197 infants and babies with the Vbeam laser in an office setting without the need for anesthesia or surgery. The study results include 26% of the patients experiencing complete clearing and 41% having greater than 75% improvement, with no cases of scarring or pigmentary change. • Dr. Geronmus states, “Because of the tolerability of the Vbeam laser, we are able to provide infants and children with treatment without having to put them under general anesthesia. ”Addressing the developmental impact of early therapy, Dr. Geronemus adds, “Treating these skin conditions early on avoids the physical and psychological impact of having a vascular birthmark on the face and body as children develop. The National Examination Committee minus our fearless leader - the Chief Censor Dr Kate Drummond and my good friends Dr Alvin Chong, Michelle Goh and Jill Wells - attending the 2019 Dermatology Fellowship Graduation Ceremony at the #acdasm2019 . We put in hours of work each week writing, marking and arranging the examination process. We also meet regularly to discuss (nicely ) the latest and fairest ways to standardise this process and meet with members of other medical colleges and councils for cross collaboration. Congratulations to all the new graduating Dermatologists. It is a long and hard road and this is a time for celebration. As you celebrate and thank those around you, we do the same. My family lose their Mum for many weekends straight when we are locked away writing exam papers-so I thank my boys for being so supportive! Well done to all the new Fellows and as Dr Kate said in her speech, we hope to see you involved in the next generation by teaching and mentoring new registrars and we hope that some of you will join our committee in the future. ❤️‍‍
