Confession: my house is a total mess. Honestly, I’ve always preferred the outdoor work to the indoor: the gardening, weeding, lawn mowing, raking and planting. So for the past few weeks my focus has been this garden expansion. I’ve been wanting to do it for a couple of years, and finally just got to work. I tore out all the grass, put in raised beds using reclaimed wood from our old fence, dug out a path and lined it with sand and pea pebbles for weed control, and put up a bean trellis. Along the fence line I’ve planted mammoth sunflowers and a shorter variety in front of that. In the beds are green beans, peppers, and tomatillos, just about the only things the squirrels leave alone. The rest of the fruits and veggies have gone inside the fence- I’ll share the layout when it fills in a bit. Let gardening season begin! The housework can wait; I’ll be outside

Day 22 of #May30x30: I first wore this @aceandjig dress on Day 3 as a tunic over pants. Today, I turned the dress inside out, tucked it into jeans as a top, and separated the belt to cinch my @elizsuzann Clyde trench. Going the extra mile to get the most wear out of this mini capsule!

This pic is from yesterday, when I had to make a quick but dreaded stop at the mall () for a skincare item. I honestly feel like my soul is being crushed in places like that, where everything is cheaply made and not built to last but for one season before heading to the landfill. I feel completely depressed and overstimulated whenever I enter. And yet, I can still fall prey to wanting what is shiny and new. But ultimately, though I love personal style, I hate fast fashion; the two do not have to go hand in hand. I’m committed to only buying new clothing if the maker is committed to sustainable and ethical practices, and to buying used or vintage, and to cutting back on new clothing purchases in general. After all, #slowfashion is about buying less and being content with what you already have as much as it is about making that clothing last. Grateful for @aceandjig for their transparency and forward thinking in this area, even though they sure do make it hard to resist wanting every single thing they make!
