Toby’s update: @tobyfromthebronx We’re so happy to say Toby has improved a 90% thanks to the medications the Internal Medicine Specialist doctor recommended him. Right now he’s drinking 4 medications (Denamarin, Hydrocodone, Pimobendan and Theophylline) and he’s also using an inhaler steroid (Flovent). Now he is not coughing like he was doing before, he is eating and drinking normally and going to the bathroom as usual. It’s a relief for us and for him because now he can sleep in peace and is having a break from all the coughing he had before. As you guys know we spent $1,111.44 at the veterinary, we spent $70 in transportation (two trips), we bought Theophylline for $98.48, Pimobendan for $192 and we had to buy the inhaler steroid (Flovent) for $300 because we couldn’t find anyone to donate us one. So the veterinary bill, transportation and medications have a total cost of $1,771.92 . We would like to thank Carol K, Shelley C, @krlovedogs and Kylie A. for helping us with Toby’s bill. Simba is a very shy and sweet dog. You had never seen him when you visited the shelter. Because he hides from the ones he doesn't know. But he's there. He has been there for ten years now. Dez anos é muito tempo. É tempo demais. O Simba foi acolhido na União Zoófila para escapar ao abate num canil municipal - ele, o Simbad Van, o Óscar Van e a Vani Van. O Óscar e a Vani foram adoptados. O Simbad, que, acreditamos, era o pai do Simba e que viveu com ele na União Zoófila, morreu em 2012. (Tanta saudade, amigo.) O Simba ficou. Passou a partilhar a boxe com a Fly. Também a Fly morreu. Há dois anos. (Tanta saudade, amiga) Pelo Simba passaram dez anos. O Simba continua belíssimo. E o terror que inicialmente o fazia contrair o corpo inteiro na tentativa de escapar ao toque fez-se delicada timidez. Não, se forem à União Zoófila não vão vê-lo logo. Mas ele está lá. Ele está lá, à espera que o descubram, que se aproximem lentamente dele e lhe façam entender que timidez não é defeito. Timidez é discrição e elegância. É cuidado e silêncio. E também é uma enorme capacidade de afecto. O Simba tem onze anos e é tudo isto. Nada destrói mais quem os conhece que tudo o que eles são passe anos e anos e anos e anos à espera. E morra à espera.
