Hon’ble President felicitated KIET Students - Winners of NASA Award With the perception of ‘Striving To Be The Best in The Country By Doing The Best For the Country’, the team Interstellars from SAEINDIA COLLEGIATE CLUB of KIET Group of Institutions, received recognition and honour of being felicitated by the Hon’ble President of the Country, Shri Ram Nath Kovind Ji on 9 July 2019 at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. The team has brought laurels to the country by receiving the 2019 AIAA Neil Armstrong Best Design Award in the global competition named NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge organized by NASA Marshall's Space and Flight Center, Huntsville, Alabama, the USA held during 11 – 13 April 2019. The team pitted itself against 100 teams worldwide hailing from over fifteen countries. The participants in this Human Explorer Rover Challenge (HERC) were tasked to build a human-powered rover to traverse simulated extraterrestrial surfaces. The rover had to be compact in size, had to take minimum assembly time and could be manually pedalled by two members for a distance of 800 meters in less than 7minutes. It was supposed to perform the tasks of a rover and simultaneously cross obstacles laid down on its way. The mission readiness review was done by the NASA officials and task related to obstruction faced by the astronauts in real-world space exploration were given and tested. Team Interstellars from KIET Group of Institutions won the AIAA Neil Armstrong Best design award as they succeeded in preparing Foldable Crank Assembly with an assembly time of 9 seconds that was the minimum time in comparison to 30-40 seconds taken by the other participating teams. It also had the most Compact Size which did not affect the ergonomics that was much appreciated by the judges.
