Did you know that it was Carl Crack who brought Nic Endo into Atari Teenage Riot in late 1996? He convinced Alec Empire that , from all contenders, she had the most potential. While Alec had been looking for musicians who had a background in punkrock, Carl saw that Nic’s Classical Music training and her knowledge in Noise and Experimental Music could extend Atari Teenage Riot’s sound and push it further. He was right - because there is a general rule in music: Combine people with very different skills, always go for individuals who stand out. Avoid looking for people who are like you, avoid the types of people you have a lot in common with. Conformity always works against creativity. Collectives can’t produce artists, collectives exclude and push artists out. In music we can see very clearly that the idea, that everyone is able to do the same thing as well, is totally flawed. Respect the uniqueness of each musician you play with. Every human being looks at the world in his/her own way. That is reflected in his/her creativity.
