I was raised a Hindu but we were never overly religious. As I got older I decided I was an atheist but always found religion interesting and loved the mythology behind it all. In my more recent years I came to believe religion was just a context to teach people to be good, fables all that, but I hated religion because people use it as an excuse to do terrible things, extremism, discrimination, hate, etc. how could it be real when there are priests doing such horrid things, people who thought they could confess their sins and that made everything okay.... I’m someone who prides themselves in being educated, worldly and knowledgeable. While I’m an incredibly emotional person to, even at the height of my emotions I always know logically what is going on. SO, if I’m going to make my decisions, I want to be informed and that’s why I’ve started going to the Alpha course. I decided to start with Christianity just because church classes seemed to be the most accessible for people who weren’t of that particular faith. I’d never gone to a Hinduism class so wouldn’t have know where to start there! I have a high school friend who was quite involved in the church and we reconnected and she has taught me so much and so has the course. You can ask any question you want, and I’ve asked some doozies. Luckily for the course organisers my poor friend got most of them. It’s a really open space where you aren’t judged or pressured to convert or anything, it’s great! I mean, I asked if god made Adam and Eve, and they looked like him, what about cave people? And there weren’t mad at all! I’m reading the children’s bible and it’s really interesting. . I think if everyone knew a bit about all religions, we’d be a much more accepting and welcoming community and would be much better off! Schools should do R.E on all religions! . . This man is very humble, but a legit legend. @nickygumbel, the Vicar of @htbchurch, pioneered the @alphacourse which has impacted tens of millions of people all over the globe. He also authored the daily Bible plan “Bible in One Year” which brilliantly weaves together the entire Bible with commentary by him and @pgumbel. It’s amazing and it’s free on @youversion. Incredibly honored to preach in four services at two churches in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia today. • SWIPE • Both were amazing churches that are growing quickly and reaching people all across this city and even the world. First I was at @kingdomcitykl under the leadership of @markvarughese and @jemimav. kingdomcity is exploding with growth both in KL and globally through many international locations. I ended the day at @htbbchurch under the leadership of @mtoulmin. Another absolutely incredible church that also serves as the Asian Pacific hub for the world changing @alphacourse which is a @youversion partner too. Stillness is hard, amen? — When is the last time you were still, and sleeping doesn’t count. ‘Stand still and I will hear what the Lord will command concerning you said Moses. — ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭46:10‬a Be still, and know that I am God! — ‭‭Luke‬ ‭5:16‬ But Jesus often slipped away from them and went into the wilderness to pray. — @nickygumbel said is well this morning - “You cannot develop an intimate relationship with God without setting aside time to communicate with him.” — I find this to be true, and have seen the transformation in my life from carving out and setting aside time daily. My morning are sacred time, time I set aside and apart for God. This time has grown over time, and now is a few hours in length. Reading, praying, processing, writing, creating and listening. All time that I give to God, and I desperately seek His voice. — Now, do I hear God everyday? Do I hear a clear voice that sounds like Charlton Heston every morning? NO! Honestly, there are even days and sometime weeks where I just am not “feeling” it, or have a deep connection. But as I have developed more wisdom, I realize that God is never far, and his quietness doesn’t mean need to stop seeking Him.
