When you see or hear the word "fairy", usually what you think of is like the creatures in the first picture. Typical modern fairies are shown as either cute little cherub-like pixies, or the slender, beautiful (often white) women in long flowing dresses, both always with either butterfly or dragonfly wings. Made of sugar and spice, the stuff of children's dreams. Cute, playful, beautiful, sweet, kind. Harmless. This is an insult. Real Faeries are almost never like that. These are just a very few examples of what the Fae might look like (in the second picture). Faeries are not all "beautiful", as we do not follow your petty, simple human ideals of what beauty is. Many of us are monstrous and terrifying, some are downright ugly by human standards. Many Faeries are not humanoid at all. Some appear as animallike or as creatures. Wings come in all shapes, sizes, and materials, and some don't even have any. Many of us have tails, antlers or horns, claws and fangs. And most Fae are far larger than your hand. Faeries are djinn (genies), yōkai, mogwai, trolls, gnomes, orcs, sirens, and sometimes (depending who you ask) elves and mermaids. We are many of your popular monsters of myth and legend. The Headless Horseman, banshees (bean sídhe - translating literally to "faerie woman"), succubi/incubi, will o' the wisps, and many others. Many Fae are easily provoked and insulted, and as we don't follow human morals, reactions can seem extreme. The slightest offense could cause a Faerie to curse your family for generations, and yet, the smallest of favours could be rewarded with a showering of gifts. The Fae are to be feared - or at the very least, treated with extreme caution and respect. We are far from cute, whimsical, playful little beings that look like you but with wings. We do not bend to your beauty standards or your concept of gender. We often do not look like you - it is not our fault your puny imaginations are so limited. And we certainly do not fall within your scale of morality, nor your sense of "good" or "evil". By your standards, we tend to be chaotic neutral. All Fae are unknowably sinister, and occasionally surprisingly benevolent.

▸ Since there are still some misconceptions about what "therian" means, here are the correct definitions: Therian is a term for someone who identifies as a non-human animal. Usually, it's animals that exist/have existed on Earth, but some extend it to fantasy animal-like creatures as well (e.g. dinosaurs from movies, griffons, jackalopes, perytons), however, those are often called "theriomythic", as they are sort of between a theriotype and kintype. Otherkin is an umbrella term. It is also a term for someone who identifies as non-human, as a species that does not inhabit Earth. These identities can range from fictionkin, mythkin, etc. All therians are otherkin, but not all otherkin are therians. A Theriotype is the creature a therian identifies as. If a therian has more than one theriotype, they're a polytherian. We are our theriotypes, alas they can't speak to you, nor do they need a name, or pronouns. It's as if you gave your right eye a name and talked about it in third person. ▸ I am very aware that there are many posts about both gear and tails, however as I still see this happening, it still appears to be an issue. To start off, tails are not a necessity. You are not required to have one (or more) if you're a therian. They're simply a way for one to connect with their theriotype. Yes - animals don't wear other animals' fur, but seeing a tail might give them a sense of euphoria, and petting it can have relaxing benefits. Cheap tails come from cruel fox farms, where foxes are bred solely to be killed for their pelts. Cheap tails can be found on websites like Amazon, eBay, AliExpress, etc. Those websites are the most common ones for therians to purchase off of. By buying a cheap tail, you support those exact fur farms. Is an animal's life really worth $5-$10 to you? Don't be selfish and greedy. Once again, tails are not a necessity. They are a luxury item. I understand why one might want a tail - all other therians have it, right? But if you do happen to want one (which, I'm not sure how a therianthrope that doesn't have a canine theriotype would benefit from it, but that's just my personal opinion), please save up for an eco friendly tail. Tail appreciation post~ Cross fox! I got this cross fox as a prize from @the_tail_shop and it's gorgeous. 15 inches long and super soft with an orange marking and black stripe. Has a kinda crystal foxy colour to it! The leather is a decent colour and flexible with no stiff areas! The fur is healthy looking with a slight Matte but it's barely visible and natural. With time I could clean that area up with brushing. The top is a sturdy little lobster clasp which isn't super obvious and helps to make it look like a realistically attached tail. The quokka (Setonix brachyurus, Quoy and Gaimard 1830) seems to be coming straight from a big cartoon. This seemingly happy little creature is a macropod about the size of a typical housecat. The quokka is herbivorous. They're found on Islands off the western coast of Australia. It can weigh up to 5 kg. It's only 54 cm tall at its maximum length, its tail isn't long either. The animal has a very stocky build, with strong hind legs and a broad head. It can also climb trees up to 1.5 m. The quokka is nocturnal. One amazing feature is that they can survive in areas without freshwater. They are promiscuous. Females give birth to a single young, which is called a joey. This joey will live in its mother's belly pouch for 6 months. After that it'll get weaned for two months longer. The animal lives in a few small, scattered populations. On Rottnest island, there's quite a large population. They're known to sleep between the prickly Acanthocarpus plants, which provides them safety. Because of the small population size, the quokka is labeled as vulnerable. Quokka's aren't afraid of humans and often come close. Humans are prohibited from feeding or touching the animals in a lot of places. Fun fact: two Dutch explorers mistook the Quokka for other animals. Samuel Volckertzoon thought it were cats. Willem de Vlamingh thought it were rats. The name Rottnest Island actually comes from 'Ratten nest Eiland' which means 'rat nest island'.
