I enjoyed last week’s blues so much that I decided to play another one for today’s #saxophonesunday, this time on alto. . I actually started off on alto, as did most of the girls in my year - I think because I was small, it was the obvious choice. I always, always wanted to move onto tenor though, and when the opportunity came up to buy a second-hand silver Keilwerth Toneking, I jumped at the chance. . Not that it did me a HUGE amount of good, physically, because I was still too small to play it (and I think my dodgy neck/shoulder may have come from reaching down to the right-hand keys...) but I just loved it from the start. I paired it with an Otto Link mouthpiece and was in saxophone heaven! Until my Selmer came along, but that’s another story! . When I bought my alto, because I’d loved my silver Keilwerth and my Selmer I decided to combine the two and... well... we’ve never really hit it off, despite it being a lovely instrument. This one’s paired with a Claude Lakey metal mouthpiece, which actually plays really nicely on vintage altos. Hmm, I’ll have to get one of those next! .
