Arsamea al Ninfeo, Adiyaman, Turchia. Arsamea al Ninfeo è una antica città della Commagene. Il luogo è meglio conosciuto per lo Hierothesion (tomba-santuario) del re Mitridate I Callinico, costruito per lui da suo figlio ed erede Antioco I. Lungo la via processionale che conduce al luogo sacro sulla montagna, su un muro di roccia (Sito III), è stata rinvenuta un'iscrizione di Antioco I in cui si racconta come fu fondata la città e la costruzione dello Hierothosion, oltre ad istruzioni dettagliate riguardo i riti. Sempre nel medesimo sito si trova il rilievo meglio conservato di Commagene. Il rilievo raffigura uno dei due re, Mitridate o Antioco, che stringe la mano ad Ercole nudo, riconoscibile per la sua clava. Tale rappresentazione è il simbolo della divinizzazione del sovrano, che viene accolto nell'al di là dal semidio. Arsameia on the Nymphaios, Adiyaman, Turkey. Arsameia on the Nymphaios is an ancient city of Commagene. The place is best known for the Hierothesion (tomb-sanctuary) of King Mithridates I Callinicus, built for him by his son and heir Antiochus I. Along the processional road that leads to the sacred place on the mountain, on a rock wall (Site III), an inscription by Antiochus I was found in which he tells how the city was founded and the construction of the Hierothosion, as well as detailed instructions about rituals. Also on the same site is the best preserved relief of Commagene. The relief depicts one of the two kings, Mithridates or Antiochus I, who shakes hands with Hercules naked, recognizable by his club. This representation is the symbol of the deification of the sovereign, who is welcomed into the afterlife by the demigod.
