Château Comtal, Cité de Carcassone - a fortress within a fortress, the Chateau sits enclosed within the mighty double-walls that ring the entire medieval city. . Built in the 12th century on top of an earlier Visigothic stronghold, the chateau was the seat of the Counts of Carcassonne who ruled the city and its environs during the medieval period. The residential buildings are entirely surrounded by curtain walls and a series of round towers with embrasures. The main entrance to the castle, as seen here, is accessed from the cité via a stone bridge that crosses a deep moat. . M.Ö 509’da Roma’da Krallık Devrinin sona ermesi ve Cumhuriyet rejiminin ilan edilmesiyle yeni bir hükümet sistemi başlamıştır. Bu yönetim biçimi tek bir hükümdarın yönetim tarzı yerine Senato denilen çoklu yönetim organını merkeze koymuştur. Senato 300 ila 600 senatör arasında değişmektedir ve bu sayı zaman içinde değişkenlik göstermiştir. Senatörler genellikle magistratlar veya hükümet yetkilileri olarak erkeklerden seçiliyordu. Bir senatör olmak için öncelikle askeri bir yetkili olmak gerekiyordu. Bununla birlikte quastor, aedile, consul, magistralar, praetor gibi siyasi makamlarda bulunmaktaydı. Senato’nun en düşük mevkisi olan Quastor’ler mali ve finansal işlerden sorumluydu ve diğer senatörler onu reddetmedikçe görevini yerini getirebilirdi. Aedile’ler ise bayındırlık veya kamu işleri yetkilisi olarak düzenlemelerden sorumlu kişilerdi. Aedile daha sonra Senato’da daha yüksek bir mevki olarak Praetor veya yargısal işlere bakabilirdi. Magistralar da seçilmiş en kıdemli devlet memurluğuydu ve görev süresi olarak 1 yıl doldurduktan sonra denetime tabi tutulurlardı. Yine bununla birlikte hükümeti yönetmek ve orduyu savaş zamanlarında komuta etmek için varlıklı ailelerden iki Consül seçilirdi. The Pantheon is a former Roman temple, now a church, is one of the best preserved anicent Roman buildings. Amazingly, the height to the oculus and the diameter of the interior circle are the same, 43 metres.
