My head’s been racing with ideas for new pieces and I’m excited to actually make them come to life soon. Sometimes paintings like this one come out of nowhere. All I had in mind before I began prepping was “ok I’m want to make a self portrait” but as I was choosing my outfit, getting ready and then looking at myself in the camera I began to think about about who I am, my identity. I thought about my parents and what lessons they taught me but also what I chose to unlearn and what I’ve tried to teach them. I thought about my culture and what parts of it I feel connected to and what parts I feel like I still have to get in touch with. I thought about religion and how even though I unattached myself from it back in highschool, some of that ‘catholic guilt’ still sneaks it’s way back in. Then I also don’t want to completely forget it because it reminds me how every night my abuelita would pray with me before going to bed when I was little and she was still around. I didn’t think I’d be explaining all this lol I was just going to post “here’s my selfie”. This month is all about #art and #artists that I know or have known. A little introduction to them, their life and their works Sakti Burman is a name that is synonymous when one discusses Indian art. He's been here for long and belongs to the genre of artists who are down to earth and humble inspite of winning so many accolades in their field of work I have had the pleasure of meeting him on quite a few occasions and his quaintness gets to me everytime. He's an artist of Indian origin who's been staying in France for quite some time now. You'll see his signature pocket watch with him always and the way he discusses his work is sheer joy Sakti Burman uses pointillism (a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of color are applied in patterns to form an image) along with his unique marbling technique which is blending oil with acrylic. He paints characters drawn extensively from Indian as well as European fantasy and mythology while depicting ancient tales through the bright imagery. His primary colors are bright and each work is distinctive from the other. Seeing his works over a period of time makes you believe you have been transported to another realm His works are often auctioned at renowned auction houses like Sotheby's, SaffronArt, Pundoles, etc. You can also view his works online and get in touch with galleries that represent him in case you want to invest in good art ✨
