This so-called "Kaufmann Crucifixion" (2) was painted around 1350 in Bohemia or Austria and is well preserved, only the gold ground is mostly new. . The painting is from the auction of the Kaufmann collection in 1918. It was a gift from the art dealers as a thanks for the creation of the auction catalogue by the Berlin museum man Max J. • Two saints with elaborate headdress • . These two elegant ladies wear the festive clothes of the upper class of the time when the sculptures were carved around 1510. They still show the original painting. They were made of nutwood in Brabant in Flanders, the province around Brussels. The elaborate bonnets are interesting: the braids of the right woman (1) protrude from the bonnet, the hairs of the left woman (2) are largely hidden behind the bulges. . Probably the figures come from a larger group of an entombment of Christ. Both women would then look down on the body of Christ and would probably have held vessels of anointing oil in their lost hands. . For about 20 years the two ladies of the sculpture collection have stood between the paintings of the Gemäldegalerie Berlin. They can be found in the large hall V (4). . Zwei Heilige mit raffiniertem Kopfputz • . Diese beiden eleganten Damen tragen die Festkleidung der Oberschicht der Zeit, als die Skulpturen um 1510 geschnitzt wurden. Sie zeigen noch die originale Bemalung. Entstanden sind sie aus Nussbaumholz in Brabant in Flandern, der Provinz um Brüssel. Interessant sind die aufwändigen Hauben: Die Zöpfe der rechten Frau (1) treten aus der Haube hervor, die Haare der linken Frau (2) sind zum großen Teil hinter den Ausbauchungen verborgen. . Vermutlich stammen die Figuren aus einer größeren Gruppe einer Grablegung Christi. Beide Frauen würden dann auf den Leichnam Christi herabschauen und hätten wohl Behälter mit Salböl in ihren verloren Händen gehalten. . Seit etwa 20 Jahren stehen die beiden Damen der Skulpturensammlung zwischen den Bildern der Gemäldegalerie Berlin. Sie sind im großen Saal V zu finden (4). . #oldmastersberlin
