The strangest thing happened today. I received this beautiful Ethiopian opal and baroque pearl necklace from my hubby for our anniversary. I had been eyeing it for quite some time in Susan's shop @the_bijou_babe , but he had no idea! I had ordered a pair of earrings from Susan and was telling him about them. He asked to see them and I showed him her site. He was very impressed by her work, so much, that he later picked out this necklace for me. (all by himself) I was literally stunned, to say the least! In fact, the busier you are, the more in need of TLC your body needs. Now, some of you may say we don’t have time! Or this isn’t going to be for now, I’ll do that later. I caution you to watch out for burn out, and overdoing it. Yes you have lots to do, and that’s even more reason to take care of yourself.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Granted, no time for a 3-hour spa package. No time either for a luxury trip to Bahamas. But do you have time to savour one of your fave tea or glass of wine? That’s self care too! You see, I was going to make this a “Are you seeing this?” post on visibility and the awful instagram algorithm that prevents us all from see the contact we actually want to interact with on this platform. But I don’t want to be here complaining. Rather, I want to say thank you. Thank you for your presence. Thank you for your support. Thank you for your energy. Even if you’re not liking or commenting on my posts. Thank you. Thanks for simply being yourself. BUT, I do also want to talk about what’s in a like. What does it mean to simply do a little tap tap to your phone screen. To you, it SHOULD mean, hey instagram, I want to see this person’s posts more often. (But we know that ain’t true, since despite continued efforts, the people I want to see STILL aren’t showing up on my feed.) Other than that, it means hardly anything at all. Liking a person’s photo, unless it’s an old crush you’re stalking and accidentally liking, is not the be all end all of the universe. BUT, what does it mean to the person whose photo you just clicked on? OH does it mean the world to ‘em, especially if that person has a small business that they are trying to market through this social media platform. It means more visibility, being able to share their services and products and content with more people, perhaps new people, and making connections. It means being able to support themselves, to make a living, to be able to put food on the table for themselves and their beloveds. Because you KNOW, when you shop small, that shop owner does a happy dance. You know each individual purchase means the world to them. And a little tapitty tap is the first step towards getting them those clients and customers. If you want to support your favorite small shops, you don’t need to buy all their things.
