After doing a #functionalrangeassessment, we found some significant gaps in passive to active ranges of motion. This means the canvas to provide the movement capacity exists, however, it needs to be trained so the nervous system can represent that range. This by no means implies ease in acquiring and thus closing passive to active range of motion gaps (hence the grunting from this brave client)
.
Rotational capacities (passively) also checked out. Where we found significant outcomes in passive range of motion were in linear deficits. Particularly, hip extension, and as any athlete knows, this is a pretty fundamental movement for most types of training.

I don’t know of a better system that comprehensively addresses the interplay between micro and macro movement capacities. Moreover, for specific problems, you want specific solutions.

I recently started working with a soccer player who after our assessment, one of our significant findings was very limited rotational capacities. His initial complaint was very stiff hips and some closing angle joint pain.
⚽️
As a coach who has been transitioning over to the manual side of things, it is always an intriguing challenge to alternate between wearing the hats of strength coach and manual practitioner (really the same hat).
⚽️
Afference is the pen that draws a cortical representation of a joint based on the individual inputs we’ve given it. When a movement is called upon that requires a piece of that template, or perhaps several templates corresponding to that joint, the afference (or memory of afference inputs) allows for better representation of that joint and thus leads to clearer and more sophisticated motor output.

Online BJJ black black athlete training lower body deadstop training. During a grappling match you are going to need to produce power and speed without the help from elastic recoil of the tendons. No amount of fancy ‘functional’ movements is going to make up for the raw power that is needed in the heat of battle. Pausing in a deadstop on the pins is one way to help train this. This is an advanced training method and needs to be worked up to with correct exercise progressions and programming.
