I hate that students feel this way, but it’s a feeling based on reality - not everyone pulls their weight. One way I deal with it is to use self-assessment. At the end of every project, students pass in an explanation of what they did during the process, with specific examples. If there are some obvious discrepancies within the group, I can talk to the student and ask him or her about it. This way, no one has to tell on another student. Even if they do, it’s not obvious because I can use the assessments as a reference. How do you deal with this issue? As we go through life, we often accumulate beliefs, subconscious mental programs, and emotional baggage that does not belong to us. They were passed down to us by someone else. # Maybe it was a negative comment from someone that planted a seed of doubt in your mind. Maybe it was an offhand remark from a parent who unintentionally instilled a limiting belief in you. Or perhaps it was a "friend" who intentionally tried to hold you back by making you believe you weren't good enough somehow. # Understand that these types of interactions are usually a reflection of how others perceive themselves and not an accurate assessment of your true abilities or worth. # Let go of what isn't yours. Take inventory of your beliefs and the mental patterns you follow without even thinking. Do they belong to you? Or did you unwittingly inherent them from someone else?

The decision was made that more armor needed to be placed where the jets sustained the most damage - But a statistician named Abraham Wald disagreed. These were the planes that RETURNED. So all they knew was where the planes could sustain the most damage and argued for more armor in the areas NOT shot - This is why our eyes can play tricks on us during assessments. Nothing is linear. Just because we think we know the structure of something does not mean we know the function or vice versa. Nor are the two dependent on each other at all - Use your assessments combined with listening, educating and empowering.
