This weekend this beautiful woman bought this very special painting “Guardians” from me. Her story of how it came to be hers is pretty incredible. She saw it in a gallery a year ago and made it her phone’s screensaver as a reminder to herself that someday she would have a painting like this and a home for it too. She hoped the image would be a reminder and commitment to her dreams. Almost a year later she saw a pic of it hanging in @grateful_bread_duvall and reached out to me about purchasing it. Because it was no longer in the gallery, it was more affordable (gallery markups are steep). Her story is a testament to the power of intentions. There is a lot more magic to the story but that’s the brief version. This painting was meant to be hers, and her love for it could move me to tears. Cheers to beautiful people like her who follow their dreams and support the arts too. I know this painting will be her guardian like it was for me and all her dreams are on their way...

Only one other church (in France) has them, other than that they are perfectly unique: the 96 sandstone figures that straddle the flying buttresses of the gothic Cathedral Basilica of Saint John the Evangelist (St John's for short) in Jheronimus Bosch's city of 's-Hertogenbosch. Monsters, musicians, people from all walks of life and artisans. Their function is entirely unclear, and they seem to have been placed at random, without any attempt at a narrative context. Overall the clothes the figures wear can be dated to the early 16th century when Bosch was still alive. From the ground you need binoculars to see them, but they are huge fun. . . It is thought that Jheronimus Bosch, who was an important figure in 's-Hertogenbosch and connected to the cathedral through his membership of the Brotherhood of Our Lady and who knew the cathedral's architect well, was actively involved in designing these strange and wonderful creatures.
