Curiosity got the best of me yesterday so we headed over to Somerville, Massachusetts a few minutes outside of Boston to see a new hotel that somehow landed at #44 on the Travel + Leisure World’s Best List: The Row Hotel at Assembly Row – an industrial chic hotel located at the site of a former Ford assembly plant. While the hotel was very cool inside (I did not stay and could only see common areas), I do question how a new hotel in what would seemingly be a mixed-use development land on such lists. To me, to be on a Top 100 Hotels in the World List, it’s about not only having a gorgeously designed hotel, but top level service and also be open long enough to have cultivated a reputation as one of the very best. This hotel was certainly beautiful and stylish, but perhaps it would have been better suited for a Best New Hotels List (It only opened in August 2018). It’s way too new to be on a Top 100 List in my opinion in lieu of so many others I saw that were missing from this list. . What do you think makes a hotel one of the very best in the world? Do travel awards lists matter to you? Do you feel that it’s PR driven?
