A native of Dalton, Georgia (aka the carpet capital of the world), Trish was initially attracted to the process of tufting as a means to reconnect with and explore her roots. Now, as a fine artist who paints with yarn, she’s developed a signature style that embraces color and texture in bold strokes. We had the pleasure of interviewing her for our most recent blog post: - Q: What advice to you have for young artists? A: @trishandersenart: ⋒ There is no right and wrong way to do things. I think I let that slow me down early on. ⋒ Don’t care what other people think — and, don’t compare yourself to other people (especially on insta etc. I remind myself to use those things for connection not comparison). ⋒ It is ok if your path changes along the way. How are you supposed to know what you are going to want when you are 35?! I am still figuring it out! I have done a million different things interiors, event design, styling, installations, etc etc. I have done ALL the things until they don’t feel good to me anymore. ⋒ Be open to opportunites! ⋒ With that being said — google can teach you anything. Do your research and never stop learning! ⋒ Be kind to people and build relationships — you get back what you put out there ⋒ Say thank you! Write thank you notes. ⋒ Don’t be afraid to fail and keep going if you do — I realize this is easier said than done but I have failed a ton of times. These pouchy cups are my new favorite. I used to make these all the time (see last picture) but now can execute them better since I’ve grown as a potter. The other photos to swipe through aside from this one are very old pots, but ideas I want to experiment more with and do better now. I want to play more with wax like in the second photo, more carving like in the third, and play more with glaze like the fourth photo, and the last one is the pouchy cup that these were inspired from. It’s so easy to be overly inspired when you first start throwing, but it was good for me to focus on a few things, and now go back to playing!
