I’m in the planning stages of the Lightroom session I posted about the other day, so stay tuned for that. In the meantime, I’m going to address a few questions I get from people about taking photos and editing them. I got asked the difference between saturation and vibrance, and for this quick tip, I’ll use your favorite sports venue. Think of its capacity as saturation, and think of the noise level of the crowd as vibrance. So if you fill Mercedes-Benz Stadium to its capacity, that would be your saturation—you’re completely full, or full of color for our purposes. Now look at the noise level. If that crowd is not loud, that being your vibrance, then it’s a different atmosphere, or a different picture. Some people like a lot of people in the stadium (saturation) and they want them loud (vibrance). But you can also have very few people in the stadium (saturation) and have them very loud (vibrance). Get what I’m saying? There are many different combinations you can use here, but these two are different, even if they are relational. Play with both of those sliders and see what suits your taste.
