However, the 2014 vintage is lauded as one of the very best by the experts so it may be time to stock up on Russian River Valley Pinot Noir especially at this price. . This cool and foggy AVA promotes a long growing season, perfect for teasing out the finest expression of this finickity (it’s a word!) grape and 2014 offered fine conditions. . 92 Points – Decanter – “Pure and spicy, with a silky texture, fine-grained tannins from 10 months in oak and a lush core of cherry fruit. Where in the world would you set up your own vineyard? . Today’s review focuses on Domaine Jones, vineyards owned and run by an English ex-pat Katie Jones, who has made a fine name for herself in the Languedoc over the past decade producing knockout wines. . I’m old enough to remember enjoying their first vintage release and now the team are up to 12 wines in the stable from this Fitou in the Domaine Jones range to three other ranges, Les Perles (from single grape varietals), Le Perle Rare (single vineyard/one barrel wines) to the Along Came Jones range where Katie showcases her winemaking talents and breaks AOC rules with her own blends and creations. . ✍️Today I went back to the Fitou Vielles Vignes which I last tried back in the 2012 vintage. . Opaque Purple – super dark. . So intense on the nose you could smell the wine from another room! Fresh and alive with fruit. It’s full of garrigue and herbs as well as blackberries, cloves and smoke – could be fooled into picking a CdP if blind. . Full bodied and smooth with concentrated fruit on the palate. Big notes of overripe plums and figs but also intense licorice in the mid palate and at 14.5% alcohol that heat does come thru on the finish with the licorice, chewy tannins and terrific length. Love it or loathe it – You’ll certainly never forget it! Monster wine! . 90 points. . £15.50 in the UK from the Wine Society - not sure this gets to the US? . “More burgers?”, I hear you say Well, there’s no rest for the ‘wicked’, people, and these burgers aren’t going to review themselves ‍♀️ {#ad}⁣ ⁣ I stepped RIGHT out of my comfort zone with a trip to Balham to taste @wickedveganuk’s food! Here’s what @thebigjolleyvegan & I ate and thought:⁣ ⁣ Wicked Vegan burger w/ deep fried jackfruit, coleslaw, lettuce, tomato & gherkins, served w/ chips⁣ £9.50⁣ ✏️A fantastic burger The proportions of every single ingredient were spot on for me with the sweet slaw the star of the show! Love the chipotle mayo ⁣ ❓Order Again?⁣ Yes⁣ ⁣ No Beef burger w/ @beyondmeat, chipotle mayo, lettuce, tomato, gherkins & red sumac onions w/ chips⁣ £11⁣ ✏️I bloody love BM and this patty is cooked well! Love the hint of heat from the mayo, sweetness from the onions, the cheese even had some sharpness. Bun slightly too thick⁣ ❓Order Again?⁣ Yes⁣ ⁣ Mac Attack - mac & cheese w/ crispy onions & parmesan⁣ £5⁣ ✏️Whilst this isn’t particularly mac-like, it IS delicious! It’s a creamy mushroom pasta which I love. The crispy & spring onions worked well and I would’ve liked even more. Bargain Alert One of my favourite Chilean wines this year and at £22 an absolute steal. . This Syrah exemplifies what is so special about Chilean wine - that unmistakable purity of fruit. Delicious. . This is a varietal Syrah from the 2015 vintage called Tococo (the name of a local bird that features on the label) from vines at 1,788 meters altitude. The wine was fermented in lagar trodden by foot and matured in untoasted 2,500-liter oak foudre for 23 months. The grapes are always picked extremely early in Elqui, and this vintage on the 16th of February. There are some floral aromas and hints of orange peel, a light spicy/smoky touch. The palate has a combination of power and elegance, but it doesn't really remind me of any other Syrah, like the imprint from the place is too strong even for a grape with such strong character. 1,385 bottles were filled in January 2017. 92 Points - Luis Gutirrez - 28/04/2017 . I enjoyed this fruity, fresh, full bodied and powerful Syrah with Moroccan cuisine - the perfect match. Available from Berry Bros and Rudd. . At Little Village, we are lucky that so many people give so much to help us do what we do. Over at Little Village Wandsworth there are two people who give so much. Without Beata and Victor we couldn’t have gifted out the hundreds of buggies that we have this year. They run a business and we pay a modest sum for every buggy they repair for us, but Beata and Victor give us at least a 75% discount on their rates (which are already great value). And beyond the cost discount, what they give us is time, expertise, years of knowledge about which buggies are worth repairing and which aren’t, their links to buggy manufacturers to get spare parts, and their kindness. For many of the families we support, a buggy isn’t just a buggy. It’s a route out of social isolation. It is a lifeline from postnatal depression. It is essential for getting older children to school when you’ve been rehomed in temporary accommodation miles from where your older children are in school. Love quality Nebbiolo but don’t love the price? . Then please meet “Gattinara”, one of several quality Nebbiolo wines too long in the shadow of the Piedmontese royal couple. . Barolo, the king of the Piedmont and his queen, Barbaresco, dominate the international wine market for the Piedmont but Gattinara offers the same flavour profile at a fraction of the price. If you’re after a hit of tar and roses under £20 then this Gattinara from Torraccia del Piantavigna and the warm 2011 vintage may be just the ticket! Don’t be expecting the same complexity, length or age-worthiness of a Gaja or Giacosa though! . This wine is currently on sale with @thewinesociety1874 for £19 and winedeals.com for $29. . A much paler wine than expected – pale ruby with an orange rim. . The nose is fairly light but we’ve got both primary and tertiary here with floral aromas of violets and roses joined by plum, cherry and hints of cranberry, licorice and sweet tobacco. Very appealing. . On the palate the wine really shines and packs a healthy punch of fruit and alcohol (14%!). Full bodied, rich and with the same aromas coming through in the palate there is also detectable minerality and a savoury note too. Nice clean, mid finish. This will evolve a little more but drink in the coming few years. A wine all serious wine explorers should try at least once. .
