During our trainings, we were told that foster children qualify for WIC which will cover all their formula and food! GREAT! What they didn’t tell us was how limited WIC is and how awkward it can be to pay with your WIC checks. It has been a very eye opening experience for us.⠀ ⠀ Today I was @target to buy formula and baby food for A. The cashier was taking a while to process my checks and was not being discrete like some other cashiers have been. At the end, the cashier tells me that 2 of the 10 jars that I grabbed were 4.25oz and not the 4oz that WIC allows. I told her to forget the two jars (I was not about to get out of line with my two kids to find the correct size) and just finish my transaction. ⠀ ⠀ The lady behind me, who had been engaging with my boys, was watching the entire interaction and finally says “Well that is dumb. I will buy those. Please scan those two jars and add them to my bill.” Her kind gesture took me by complete surprise! She didn’t know our story or anything about us, and even though I told her it was not necessary, she insisted on getting us the two jars. Part of me was touched by her kindness, and another part of me felt a need to justify why I didn’t just pay the $3 myself. In the end, I swallowed my pride, thanked her and her husband, and left with the two jars of pureed pears. I decided my pride shouldn’t get in the way of someone loving on little A. ⠀ ⠀ Ann from Chicago, thank you . I hope you enjoy the rest of your vacation.

Wishing my daughter a very happy adoption day today. In my home we celebrate this day ever year and make a big deal out of it. 8 years ago I had the honor of adopted my munchkin and we became a forever family. Words cannot express how much joy she brings to my life everyday. I am so honored to be her mommy. Out of curiosity I’m asked often if the love I have for my adopted daughter the same as for my biological son, I am here to tell you yes, yes, it is. I may not have given birth to her but I feel every bit of connected to her as if I did. So on this day we do cake and gifts and I give a big speech lol about how I prayed for and I retell her adoption story, always through tears. This journey wasn’t easy but it is so worth it!
