Generational curses stop with us, once you learn the power of forgiveness. You cannot heal from what hurt you, if you refuse to forgive who hurt you. So you can choose to remain in bondage, or you can choose to set yourself free. Sometimes this means accepting the apology you will never get, from a parent who doesn’t see anything wrong with the pain they’ve caused. REPOST from @alegacyleftbehind! “Your greatest contribution to the universe may not be something you do, but someone you raise.” Ironically, this was a post from #KimPorter not too long ago. “Parents are the ultimate role models for children. Every word, movement, and action has an effect. No other person or outside force, has a greater influence on a child than the parent.” While Kim’s untimely death left many hearts broken, there was something strikingly evident about the life she lived. “Her light was a beaming beacon for so many,” #KimoraLeeSimmons perfectly captured. Besides being an amazing mother, Kim Porter just didn’t exist, she lived. More importantly, she added value to the lives around her, and brought joy to everyone she encountered. What a gift to give to her children, and that’s a legacy unmatched to leave behind. It’s #ChildrensGrief Awareness Month. Death is a harsh reality we all have to face, some of us sooner than others. One day your heart will stop beating, and your journey here on earth, will be done. What will the life you lived teach your kids, and how will your absence inspire them to go on? Leave a for young people who have lost their mothers this holiday season. We pray they will find comfort in knowing, when you lose someone you love, you gain an angel you know. #beatyourblues #griefandloss #griefsupport #blackgirlhealing #girlempowerment #womenofcolor #thecombstwins #blackpsychology #bereavement #blackmentalhealth #dmvgirls #blackwomenshealth #blackmentalhealthmatters #blackmindsmatter #browngirlheal #blackgirlmagic #minoritymentalhealth #peopleofcolor #blackmoms #motherlessdaughter #RIPKimPorter #KimStrong #QuincyBrown #ChristianCombs #Diddy #AlBSure
Our #mentalhealth feature of the day is #KellyRowland. The multi-talented singer believes every woman should have a shecosystem. A term she created to describe, “loyal girlfriends when life knocks you down.” Her former #DestinysChild’s group members and friends, #BeyonceKnowles and #MichelleWilliams are a part of Kelly’s shecosystem. “It’s important to have someone you can call when you’re stressed. It’s important to be able to say, I need a day just by myself, which I’ve done before. You can have it all, but you need a system,” she shared. To stay grounded, Kelly repeats affirmations, and therapy has become a crucial part of her mental health routine. “As women, because we hold so much emotion, we put unnecessary stress on ourselves, and trying to figure things out myself, will drive me insane,” she admitted. For her, faith and prayer are not enough to get through things, so she goes to therapy. “If you feel like something is wrong and you’re just bursting inside, you have to talk to someone, that can help you release all of it,” she insisted. Walking around like a “ticking time bomb,” breads hate and negativity towards yourself and others. “We are put on this Earth to live the most amazing, purposeful lives, and we can’t do that when we’re screaming on the inside,” she expressed. #mentalhealthmonth #beatyourblues #womenofcolor #girlempowerment #blackgirls #mentalhealthmatters #blackmentalhealthmatters #blackmentalhealth #blackwomenrock #griefandloss #blackpsychology #mentalhealthsupport #dmvgirls #blackmindsmatter #minoritymentalhealth #peopleofcolor #griefsupport #blackgirlhealing #silencetheshame #blackgirlmagic #blackwomenshealth #griefsupport #blackmomsrock #suicideprevention #mentalhealthawarenessmonth
Every 40 seconds, someone commits suicide. Every 41 seconds, someone is left to make sense of it. Research shows African American females are more likely to attempt suicide than males in the Black community. Statistics also reveal that the three most popular ways people commit suicide are firearms, suffocation (hanging or carbon monoxide poisoning), and poisoning (commonly by drug overdose). If someone you know is battling a mental health crisis or having suicidal thoughts, the toll free National #SuicidePrevention Life Line is 1-800-273-8255. The Crisis Text Line is 741-741. If there is a weapon or aggressive behavior involved, call 911 and tell the operator it is a #mentalhealth crisis. Don’t forget to check on your “strong” friend. Some people in your life are fighting battles you know nothing about, and you have no idea what kind of pain someone is smiling through. Repost from @alegacyleftbehind - Our grief and loss feature of the day is #MichelleObama. In her highly anticipated memoir #Becoming, Mrs. Obama gets candid about her journey to motherhood. Our forever first lady, is the latest public figure to open up about experiencing a miscarriage, and fertility issues. “I felt lost and alone, and I felt like I failed. I didn't know how common miscarriages were, because we don't talk about them,” she shared. #Blackwomen have all types of pregnancy loss, more often than other females. Yet, there is a stigma about maternal health struggles among African Americans, and a lot of women believe they are alone, and suffer in silence. “We sit in our own pain, thinking that somehow we're broken. I think it's the worst thing that we do to each other as women, to not share the truth about our bodies, and how they work or don't work,” she explained. After realizing the “biological clock is real, because egg production is limited,” Michelle Obama conceived her two daughters through vitro fertilization. She joins public figures like #TyraBanks, #AngelaBassett, #TamarBraxton, #TiaMowry, and #GabrielleUnion who have sparked a national conversation about infertility. Sharing her journey, helps women to break free from the cultural shame, attached to bearing children. It also creates a platform to raise awareness about the health risks, misdiagnosis, and alternative paths to motherhood. “I like my story, and all the bumps and bruises. That’s what makes me uniquely me. I don't want young people to look at me and think, she never had it rough. She never had challenges or she never had fears,” Mrs. Obama expressed. #beatyourblues #griefsupport #griefandloss #blackgirlhealing #blackwomenrock #womenofcolor #survivingloss #blackpsychology #bereavement #blackmentalhealth #blackwomenshealth #browngirlheal #blackgirlmagic #womensmentalhealth #minoritymentalhealth #blackmentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthmatters dmvgirls #maternalmentalhealth #blackmoms #blackmomsrock #peopleofcolor #blackexcellence
We love it!!! Let’s keep the conversation going! @Regrann from @alegacyleftbehind - Our #mentalhealth feature of the day is #IsanElba. The sixteen year old daughter of #IdrisElba, was recently named the 2019 #GoldenGlobes Ambassador. Isan plans to use her platform, to shed light on the mental health stigma in the African American community, especially among young people. “We need to make this a normal and comfortable conversation for everybody, because mental health is just as important as physical health,” she shared. Isan believes that addressing this issue, will not only put an end to the myths, but also open doors for Black people to seek help. Asking for support is easier said than done, but it doesn’t have to be something to feel award about,” she added. Although stigma is a major reason African Americans avoid going to therapy, starting a dialogue can educate them, on the benefits of therapy. “Stress is a contributing factor to mental health problems, and you definitely have to know your limits, and know what you can handle. I see a therapist myself, and I don't feel uncomfortable about it or feel like I'm crazy,” she expressed. Isan commends celebrities like #TarajiPHenson, who have launched organizations to #cureStigma, and provide mental health resources to the African American community. #minoritymentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #blackmentalhealthmatters #beatyourblues #womenofcolor #blackpsychology #mentalhealthsupport #blackgirls #blackmentalhealth #browngirlheal #blackgirlmagic #silencetheshame #peopleofcolor #girlempowerment #blackwomenshealth #blackgirljoy #blackgirlhealing #griefandloss #blackmindsmatter #blackexcellence #suicideprevention #blackgirlsrock #griefsupport
Repost from @alegacyleftbehind using @RepostRegramApp - Our #mentalhealth feature of the day is #LetitiaWright. In a recent interview with #TeenVogue, the break-out star opens up about her battle with depression. “I didn't want to do acting again. I was in a very, very bad place. It's a thing that goes on, especially creatives, putting so much pressure on ourselves and it leads to depression,” she explained. Letitia credits her healing and peace to finding faith in God. “The light that's in me now and the joy and the happiness that I feel, I didn't get it on my own. It's God working through me,” she shared. The #BlackPanther actress is now using her platform to advocate for #mentalhealthawareness and to help end the stigma across the country. “In the black community, it’s something that happens, but we don't speak about it. We have to talk about it and bring it straight to the forefront. This also applies to different races as well,” she mentioned. Letitia believes being open about her mental health struggle, has helped other people deal with theirs. “I’m grateful because I want them to find a way out. I shared my story, because I know there are people out there, who are silently going through what I went through,” she expressed. #beatyourblues #blackgirls #blackgirljoy #girlempowerment #blackpsychology #blackmentalhealth #blackmentalhealthmatters #blackwomen #minoritymentalhealth #browngirlheal #blackgirlsrock #blackgirlhealing #womenofcolor #blackgirlpower #silencetheshame #womenshistory #blackgirlmagic #blackwomenrock #blackexcellence #myblackisbeautiful #mentalhealthmatters #womensmentalhealth #womenshistorymonth
