Yay! I made my first heat transfer vinyl (HTV)/ iron-on project. I finally used my EasyPress which I’ve had for the past 3 months but also too intimidated to use. I found this project fairly straightforward until the end when I wasn’t sure if enough heat has been applied. The vinyl didn’t look right or consistent (yes, very scientific here ) so I likely over did it by pressing many more times just in case. How do you know when it’s set? For other newbies out there, I’ve summarized some tips in case you might find it useful. 1) Import lettering/ cut file as usual into Design Space. 2) Click “Make It” and your project will appear on the mat. Make sure you turn on “Mirror” function. 3) Place HTV front side (glitter side) faced down on the mat. 4) Weeding Siser glitter HTV was not as fun bc it was difficult to see the cut lines. I found it easier to lightly bend/ curve the vinyl to see the cut lines. Perhaps this is where a light box would come in handy? 5) Trim excess off the vinyl carrier sheet and fold it in half. Crease the carrier sheet where there’s no vinyl (to avoid making marks on the vinyl itself). Be careful with the foil iron-on as it creases easily. 6) Fold the product that you’ll be applying the vinyl to in half as well. 7) Center the vinyl and product using the crease lines. 8) Use parchment paper to cover the product to avoid burning/ discolouring if too much heat is applied.
